Position Summary
Oxford High School is seeking a passionate and experienced Head Girls Basketball Coach to lead and develop a competitive high school program. The ideal candidate will promote athletic excellence, character development, and academic success while building a strong, positive team culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan, organize, and lead all aspects of the girls basketball program (varsity, and coordination with sub-varsity levels)
- Develop and implement practice plans focused on skill development, team concepts, and game strategy
- Coach and supervise student-athletes during practices, games, and team events
- Foster a culture of accountability, teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect
- Analyze game performance and make strategic adjustments
- Collaborate with assistant coaches to ensure program alignment and player development
- Monitor academic progress and promote student-athlete success in the classroom
- Communicate effectively with players, parents, faculty, and administration
- Organize and oversee offseason training, conditioning, and open gym opportunities
- Ensure compliance with school, district, and CIAC regulations
- Assist with scheduling, transportation coordination, and program logistics
- Maintain and manage equipment, uniforms, and program inventory
Qualifications
- Prior coaching experience in basketball (high school or higher preferred)
- Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, systems, and player development
- Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and mentor high school athletes
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- CPR/AED and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Must meet all district hiring requirements and pass background checks
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous head coaching experience at the high school level
- Experience building or rebuilding a competitive program
- Familiarity with film breakdown, scouting, and modern basketball analytics
- Background in strength and conditioning for basketball athletes
Compensation
- Stipend in accordance with district salary schedule and experience
