Internship Overview
Oxford Bank is seeking a motivated college intern to participate in a multi-departmental summer internship supporting Business Credit, Audit, and Oxford Commercial Finance (OCF). This role is designed to provide meaningful exposure to the commercial loan lifecycle, combining traditional business credit with commercial finance products, including Asset-Based Lending (ABL) and Factoring.
Building on Oxford Banks collaborative and client-focused credit model, the intern will support underwriting, portfolio, audit, and commercial finance activities while gaining hands-on insight on how commercial loans are analyzed, processed, monitored, and supported across the organization.
Job Summary
Oxford Bank has created a unique and collaborative approach to serving Business Banking and Commercial Finance clients. Our credit, audit, and OCF teams work in parallel processing environments, partnering closely with Relationship Managers and Operations teams to deliver an exceptional client experience throughout underwriting, closing, and loan administration.
This interns primary focus will be to support credit and commercial finance teams through analytical, organizational, and project-based work, while also gaining exposure to audit and field examination concepts that support risk and mitigation and portfolio quality.
Primary Responsibilities & Learning Areas
Support the Business Credit team in reviewing and analyzing borrower financial information.
Assist in preparing financial spreads using internal spreading tools based on client-provided data.
Learn the fundamentals of commercial underwriting, including how credit decisions are evaluated and approved.
Observe and assist with annual loan reviews, credit file preparation, and covenant tracking.
Participate in credit and team meetings to gain exposure to risk assessment and portfolio management.
Gain foundational knowledge of working capital lending products, including:
o Asset Based Lending (ABL)
o Factoring
o Borrowing Base Certificates (BBC)
o Advance rates and collateral eligibility
Assist with basic collateral and reporting analysis, such as:
o Accounts receivable aging reviews
o Inventory reporting summaries and trend identification
Learn key differences between traditional business banking credit and commercial finance structures, including monitoring requirements.
Support Audit and Field Exam activities by assisting with:
o Exam preparation and document organization
o Review of supporting collateral documentation
o Basic walkthroughs of accounts receivable and inventory testing concepts
Gain exposure to audit practices related to risk mitigation, internal controls, and documentation standards.
Develop awareness of fraud risk indicators and compliance considerations within commercial lending environments.
Participate actively in cross-departmental meetings and learning sessions.
Assist with departmental projects and portfolio support initiatives.
Use Microsoft Excel and Word to organize data, support analysis, and prepare documentation.
Handle confidential client and bank information with professionalism and discretion.
Complete assigned learning activities, summaries, or projects tied to the internship program.
Build a foundational understanding of how Business Credit and Oxford Commercial Finance work together to support clients and manage risk.

Qualifications and Skills

Education and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Third- or fourth-year students pursuing Bachelors degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics required.
Prior internship experience, relevant coursework, or academic projects related to finance, accounting, or business preferred.
No prior commercial banking, credit, or commercial finance experience required this is a learning focused internship.
