Oxbow High School is located in Bradford, Vermont, which is 25 interstate miles north of Dartmouth College and Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, and the many cultural events around Hanover and Lebanon NH.
Position Overview: Director of Athletics and Student Activities leads, develops, and promotes a comprehensive program of co-curricular and extracurricular opportunities that support student wellness, character development, and lifelong engagement in healthy activities. This role fosters a safe, supportive environment where all students have the opportunity to participate, lead, and thrive. This is an interim, administrative position. A strong performance will result in a strong internal candidacy for the AD Position for the 26-27 school year.
Program Leadership & Culture Building
Develops and communicates a clear vision for inclusive, student-centered athletic and activity programs that promote belonging, equity, and physical and mental wellness.
Creates opportunities for student voice and leadership within programs, ensuring a wide range of interests and backgrounds are represented.
Advocates for underrepresented student groups in co-curricular participation.
Models and promotes sportsmanship, citizenship, and the school’s core values in all programs and activities.
Staff Supervision & Development
Recruits, hires, supports, and evaluates coaches, advisors, and assistants, prioritizing inclusivity, mentorship, and alignment with the school's educational mission.
Provides ongoing professional development around wellness, inclusion, mental health, trauma-informed coaching, and safe participation.
Ensures all staff comply with safety training, first aid, and professional standards.
Student Safety, Wellness & Eligibility
Oversees all health and safety protocols related to activities and athletics, including physicals, emergency procedures, injury tracking, and mental health supports.
Collaborates with counselors, nurses, and families to support the holistic well-being of students involved in programs.
Ensures all eligibility requirements and consents are properly documented and maintained.
Budget & Resource Management
Develops and manages a transparent, equitable budget that reflects student interest and wellness priorities.
Coordinates equipment purchasing and facility use with attention to student safety, accessibility, and sustainability.
Seeks out partnerships and funding opportunities, including grant writing when applicable.
Event Coordination & Logistics
Plans, coordinates, and publicizes a calendar of inclusive athletic, artistic, and enrichment events.
Oversees logistics for events, including transportation, staffing, referees, crowd control, and maintenance support.
Ensures timely payment for officials and other event expenses.
Organizes annual recognition events that celebrate student achievement and participation beyond competitive performance.
Facilities & Equipment Oversight
Maintains safe, inclusive, and respectful use of athletic and activity spaces, including fields, gymnasium, snack bar, and locker rooms.
Ensures accountable inventory, distribution, and maintenance of equipment.
Establishes clear expectations for the use and care of school property.
Family & Community Engagement
Serves as liaison between the school and families, boosters, media, and the broader community.
Builds positive relationships with families through proactive communication, transparency, and celebration of student accomplishments, and fundraising efforts.
Promotes programs to encourage increased student and community involvement and routine end-of-season feedback regarding programs.
Communication & Media
Publishes clear and engaging information about programs, calendars, and opportunities.
Coordinates media releases and public relations with a focus on inclusivity and positive representation.
Maintains strong communication across school departments to align extracurricular efforts with academic and wellness goals.
Professional Development & Continuous Improvement
Remains current on trends in youth development, inclusive coaching, activity-based learning, and wellness-based programming.
Participates in state, regional, and national conferences related to athletic and student activity leadership.
Engages in reflective practice and continual improvement processes to ensure programs serve all students equitably.
Salary : $70,000 - $90,000
