Job Purpose
The Custodian is responsible for ensuring building(s) are kept in good order in a way that will provide a safe learning environment for students. The custodian cleans and performs routine housekeeping and maintenance of school building(s).
Essential Job Functions
Cleans floors: vacuum, sweep, dust mop, wash, strip, wax, and buff.
Washes and cleans windows, walls, chalkboards, trash cans, water fountains, and sinks.
Dusts furniture, fixtures, wood work.
Installs and maintain bulletin boards and displays, and repair boards, artwork, frames, and displays.
Provides setup and breakdown of cafeteria, gymnasium, auditorium, or other spaces for special events.
Empties trash and recycling receptacles and picks up litter in and around buildings.
Unloads materials from delivery trucks.
Provides routine grass trimming and leaf raking near building entrances.
Cleans and stocks bathrooms.
Repairs/replaces ceiling tiles.
Cleans windows; cleans and repairs window coverings.
Repairs plumbing fixtures.
Replaces light bulbs.
Moves furniture.
Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials and facilities, reporting known safety hazards in the school to supervisor.
Available to support students and staff during evacuation drills and emergencies.
Compensation:
This position pays between $18.72 and $28.22 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications. Compensation is determined by the district’s collective bargaining agreement, which considers factors such as degree level and years of service.
