What are the responsibilities and job description for the Production Baker position at OWL Food?
OWL FOOD is a family owned energy bar bakery located at 74 Cotton Mill Hill Unit A120 Brattleboro, VT. We just entered our 15th year in business and are expanding! We are actively hiring two team members. If you like working in an independently operated, drama free and tight-knit work environment with passionate bakers who care about quality, consistency, and enjoying our work….then this is your place.
The ideal candidate is extremely detail-oriented and efficient in a fast-paced environment. We are looking for an applicant with an upbeat can-do attitude, ability to stay on task, ability to perform consistently with repetitive tasks. This is a great fit for an active person who is prepared to be on your feet for 6-8 hours, lift 50-60 pounds at a time, bending, squatting, and kneeling. Previous kitchen experience is a plus (though we are willing to train the right person).
Employees are responsible for preparing ingredients, mixing and making, baking, cutting, packaging, and boxing energy bars. You are also responsible for keeping your workstation clean and maintaining work areas, utensils, and equipment. Daily dish station duty and sweeping/mopping/vacuuming/overall bakery cleanliness. Occasional inventory, shipping and/or receiving, and other bakery work as directed/needed. This is a production bakery utilizing commercial kitchen equipment and machinery.
Shifts:
· Monday-Thursday
· 8 hour shifts. Typically 8am-4pm (some flexibility required during busy season/as the ebb and flow of a growing small business demands).
. We have two positions: two days per week OR four days per week.
· Average 16-32 hours per week
Essential Job Functions :
- Ability to regularly lift and carry bags, boxes, and buckets which can weigh up to 60 pounds
- Willingness to be on your feet and collaborating with other team members for an entire shift.
- Bending, kneeling, twisting, lifting, push/pull, and walking up and down stairs are part of our daily job
- Work independently and closely with others
- Operate ovens, mixers, bakery press, cutting machine, packaging machine, and other machinery safely.
- Maintain a clean work area at all times.
- Abide by all safety rules, regulations and policies.
- Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Required Skills :
- Great organizational and multitasking skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Reliability and flexibility.
- Basic Math skills- measuring out ingredients and computing daily yield.
- Ability to read and accurately use food scales (lbs. & oz.)
- Follow written and established recipes
- Fill out daily bakery data on supplied forms.
Compensation:
1. Salary: dependent on experience. Starting at $17-20/hr training salary with potential for a raise after 3 months favorable review. Opportunities for more hours, higher pay, and more benefits including year round work.
