Duties
- Assist dentists during a variety of dental procedures, including general dentistry, prosthodontics, endodontics, and pediatric dentistry
- Prepare treatment rooms by sterilizing instruments and ensuring all necessary supplies are available
- Take and develop dental X-rays using digital imaging equipment such as 3D scanners and medical imaging tools
- Record patient vital signs and medical history accurately in the electronic health records (EHR) system, Dentrix.
- Maintain infection control standards through aseptic techniques and proper sterilization procedures
- Provide chairside assistance during procedures, including four-handed dentistry techniques
- Educate patients on oral health care, post-treatment instructions, and proper use of dental appliances
- Manage medical documentation and records while ensuring compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Support administrative tasks such as scheduling appointments and managing patient flow as a dental receptionist when needed
- Adhere to all safety protocols related to infection control, anatomy knowledge, and medical coding practices
Skills
- Proficiency in EMR systems such as Dentrix, for efficient documentation and scheduling
- Knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure patient confidentiality and data security
- Experience with X-ray procedures and digital imaging technology, including 3D scanners and medical imaging tools
- Strong understanding of dental terminology, anatomy knowledge, and infection control protocols
- Ability to perform chairside assisting with proficiency in four-handed dentistry
- Competence in taking vital signs and understanding medical terminology relevant to dentistry
- Ability to adapt quickly to new software platforms like Dentrix for documentation and records management
- Excellent communication skills for effective patient interaction and team collaboration
