What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Coordinator position at Owen Thomas Group?
We are partnering with a leading heavy civil contractor with a strong presence across the Southeast, specializing in complex heavy construction. Due to continued growth, they are seeking an experienced Safety Coordinator to support large-scale infrastructure projects throughout the Carolinas.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and enforce site-specific safety programs across active construction projects
- Conduct daily site audits, safety inspections, and risk assessments to ensure compliance with OSHA and company standards
- Partner with Superintendents and Project Managers to promote a proactive safety culture across all job sites
- Facilitate safety meetings, toolbox talks, and ongoing training for field personnel and subcontractors
- Investigate incidents, near misses, and safety violations, implementing corrective actions as needed
- Maintain accurate documentation of safety metrics, reports, and compliance records
- Support preconstruction planning by identifying potential risks and developing mitigation strategies
Qualifications:
- 3 years of construction safety experience within heavy civil, utilities, or water/wastewater projects
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and safety compliance standards
- Experience working on large-scale infrastructure or treatment plant projects preferred
- OSHA 30 required; additional certifications (CHST, CSP) are a plus
- Strong communication and leadership skills with the ability to influence field teams
- Proficiency with safety reporting tools and construction management software
Salary : $90,000 - $130,000
