We're hiring a General Laborer to support our fabrication shop on 1st shift — a 4-day work week where you're home by early afternoon every day and Fridays are yours.
No prior structural steel experience required — if you're physically capable, reliable, and willing to learn, we'll train you on the rest.
The Details
- Starting pay: $18.00–$20.00/hr depending on experience
- Hours: Mon–Thu, 5:30 AM – 4:00 PM
- Schedule: 4-day work week — Fridays off
- Overtime: Available on Fridays for those who want extra hours
- Home by early afternoon every day
What You'll Do
You'll work hands-on in our structural steel fabrication shop, supporting fabricators, welders, and production staff to keep jobs moving accurately and on schedule.
- Read and follow basic shop drawings, cut lists, and work orders to identify part marks, hole locations, bolt sizes, and assembly requirements
- Drill, punch, and ream holes in structural steel members and plate using magnetic drills, hand drills, and drill presses
- Install bolts, nuts, and washers; wrench, tighten, and torque structural connections to specification using hand wrenches, impact wrenches, and calibrated torque wrenches
- Grind welds, bevels, copes, edges, and surfaces using hand and angle grinders; change abrasive wheels and discs safely
- Deburr, chip slag, wire brush, and clean steel surfaces in preparation for welding, painting, or galvanizing
- Assist fabricators and welders with fit-up, positioning, squaring, clamping, and bracing of steel members
- Move, stage, sort, band, and bundle material by hand or using non-powered carts, dollies, and pallet jacks
- Apply part marks, shop tags, and stencils to fabricated pieces and verify correct identification
- Perform in-process quality checks and report nonconforming material or drawing discrepancies to the supervisor
- Maintain and inspect hand and power tools; remove damaged or unsafe tools from service immediately
- Keep the work area clean, organized, and free of hazards at all times
- Wear all required PPE and follow all safety rules, LOTO procedures, and company policies
- Accurately record time, job numbers, and production quantities as required
- Cross-train and assist in other shop areas as needed
Note: This position does not operate forklifts or overhead cranes.
What We're Looking For
- Physically capable of standing, walking, kneeling, crouching, and reaching constantly throughout a 10-hour shift in a non-climate-controlled shop environment
- Able to lift up to 50 lbs. regularly; team lifts required over 50 lbs.
- Comfortable working around heat, noise, dust, welding fumes, grinding sparks, and vibration
- Ability to read and follow basic shop drawings, work orders, and verbal instructions
- Working knowledge of common hand and power tools — angle grinders, magnetic drills, impact wrenches, torque wrenches
- Strong safety awareness — constant awareness of overhead crane and forklift traffic in the work area
- Reliable attendance and punctuality — your crew counts on you
- Willingness to learn, accept direction, and cross-train into additional shop roles
- Prior experience in manufacturing, fabrication, construction, or warehouse work preferred — will train the right candidate
- Familiarity with structural steel, bolt-up, drilling, or grinding is a plus
