The Cabinetmaker is a skilled and experienced craftsperson who can work independently, read shop drawings and build a complete project from start to finish.
Reports to: Shop Manager
The Cabinetmaker is a self-sufficient craftsperson responsible for self-performing fabrication and installation of casework, millwork, and furniture, as directed by the Shop Manager, in our fast-paced high end cabinet shop. This person is comfortable interacting with clients and understands that client satisfaction for each job is paramount. Due to the varied nature of the position, they may also be asked to perform and lead various construction tasks beyond shop carpentry and site installations, scaled appropriately to the experience level possessed in the field.
Jobs to be done:
● Fabricate and assemble custom cabinets, casework, millwork, furniture and specialty wood components with precision and craftsmanship.
● Read and interpret shop drawings, cutlists, and specifications to understand project requirements and vet for accuracy.
● Support installation process as necessary.
● Mill lumber, including plywood and hardwood.
● Measure, lay out, cut, shape, and fit parts using appropriate woodworking techniques and tools.
● Set up, operate, and perform basic maintenance on woodworking machinery including table saws, planers, jointers, routers, sanders, and other shop equipment.
● Create and/or follow provided cutlists to ensure accurate part production and efficient material usage; report discrepancies or required adjustments.
● Perform detailed fitting, edge banding, sanding, and finish preparation to meet quality standards.
● Install hardware, drawer systems, hinges, pulls, and other cabinet components.
● Conduct quality checks during fabrication and assembly to confirm alignment with design and shop standards.
● Complete projects within budget targets; Manage time across multiple projects.
● Bring unique design concepts to fruition through creative thinking and collaboration with all stakeholders
● Assist with material handling, inventory staging, and organization of sheet goods, lumber, and hardware.
● Support problem solving on fabrication challenges, fitment issues, or design clarifications.
● Maintain a clean, safe, and organized workspace, including routine tool cleaning and reporting equipment issues.
● Perform and complete all tasks assigned by supervisors with accuracy and efficiency.
● Follow all shop safety procedures, PPE requirements, and company policies.

Experience and Requirements:
● 3 years of casework shop experience required, or a combination of shop experience and relevant demonstrated experience, with a portfolio or examples of work.
● Well tooled - appropriate hand tools, power tools, and equipment.
● Knowledge of cabinet shop tools including proper setup, operation, and preventative maintenance.
● Knowledgeable and passionate about architecturally significant building and detailing.
● Experience in all phases of building in the field is preferred but not required.
● Working knowledge of materials, industry standard methods, and tools.
● Comfortable with email, Microsoft Word, Excel, and able to gain proficiency in other project management/scheduling software (Buildertrend).
● Detail-oriented approach to identify and proactively solve issues with quality solutions and techniques.
● Willingness to prioritize safety and obtain necessary certifications determined necessary by company management and safety manager.
● Efficient time-management, on both a project and personal basis.
● Ability to read and understand shop drawings and communicate this information to others.
● Knowledge of general construction drawings is preferred.
● Willingness to travel outside of standard commuting radius to support jobsites, as needed.
● Flexibility to work a schedule that can occasionally include overtime and long days, including early mornings, nights, and/or weekends, depending on project need.
● Access to a vehicle capable of carrying tools and supplies, a valid driver’s license, and able to drive between designated projects throughout the workday.
● Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time; sit for extended periods; bend at the waist; repetitive motions; push, pull, climb, balance, stoop, crouch, kneel or crawl; walk on uneven terrain; proficient manual dexterity with both small and large objects; lift and/or move at least 50 pounds.
● Resiliency to withstand regular exposure to outside weather conditions, loud noises, tight spaces, high precarious places, moving mechanical parts, power tools, risk of electrical shock as well as other inherent construction site risks.
