Manager of Communications

Owen Electric Cooperative is seeking an experienced communications professional to play a central role in shaping how the cooperative communicates with its members, employees, community partners, media and the public. The successful candidate will bring strong writing skills, public speaking experience, sound judgement, creativity and a passion for connecting people with the work of their local electric cooperative. This role is largely responsible for representing the cooperative in the public arena while also orchestrating our communications campaigns with regards to Owen Electric’s website, social media platforms, publications, and internal communications.

Education:

• Bachelors degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing or related field required.
• An associate degree with appropriate experience may be substituted.

Experience:

• Prior experience in advertising, public relations, and communications work preferred.

Six months on-the-job training may be necessary before employee can perform satisfactory with minimum supervision.

Skills and Abilities:

·         Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills and have a pleasant telephone presence.

·         Must be able to quickly assist both members and co-workers; must work well under pressure.

·         Must possess a creative and dynamic ability to compose effective advertising programs and the content to support such programs.

·         Computer and desktop software publishing skills are required.

·         Web publishing skills are preferred.

·         Effective managerial and organizational skills are required to manage the overall marketing and advertising program.

·         Must have a working knowledge of the electric utility industry in general.

·         Must have complete understanding of the cooperative portion of the industry and the cooperative model of business.

·         Needs to possess the ability to understand corporate goals and objectives and develop marketing plans and programs that support the overall business plan and strategy.

·         Must be competent in using the Cooperative’s software systems.
