JOB DESCRIPTION: SCHOOL CUSTODIAN
JOB CLASS CODE: 7609
QUALIFICATIONS:
1. High school graduate or equivalent.
2. Experience in plant maintenance.
REPORTS TO: School Plant Operator
JOB GOALS: To maintain a clean and neat appearance of the assigned facility
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Keeps building and premises, including sidewalks, driveways and play areas neat and clean at all times according to work assignment schedule prepared by the School Plant Operator.
2. Maintain walks and steps as directed by the School Plant Operator.
3. Cleans assigned school facilities (e.g. classrooms, offices, restrooms, multipurpose rooms, corridors, carpets, bleachers, stage, locker rooms, etc.) for the purpose of maintaining a sanitary, safe and attractive environment.
4. Sweep classrooms, dusts furniture, and cleans all chalkboards according to work assignment schedule prepared by the School Plant Operator.
5. Cleans corridors after school each day and during the day according to work assignment scheduled prepared by the School Plant Operator.
6. Scrubs, hoses down and disinfects bathroom floors daily and cleans all sanitary fixtures and drinking fountains according to work assignment schedule prepared by the School Plant Operator.
7. Washes all windows on both the inside and outside at least twice each year and more frequently if necessary according to work assignment schedule prepared by the School Plant Operator.
8. Keeps all floors in a clean and attractive condition and in a good state of preservation according to work assignment schedule prepared by the School Plant Operator.
9. Arranges furnishings and equipment for the purpose of providing adequate preparations for meetings, classroom activities and special events.
10. Removes all garbage from facility.
11. Maintains supplies and cleaning equipment (e.g. cleaning solutions, paper products, vacuum, mops, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring the availability of items required to properly stock facilities.
12. Cleans, stores and handles equipment properly.
13. Repairs furniture and equipment as maybe required (e.g. light bulbs, unclogging drains, sinks, toilets, air filters, etc.).
14. Report major repairs needed promptly to the School Plant Operator.
15. Performs reasonable requests made by school personnel.
16. Responds to immediate safety and/or operational concerns (e.g. facility damage, injured and ill students, unauthorized persons, alarms, etc.) for the purpose of taking appropriate action to resolve immediate safety issues and maintaining a functioning educational environment.
17. All custodians must be familiar with the board and administration policies and regulations
affecting the operation of their schools and conduct themselves at all times in a manner fully supportive of these policies/regulations.
18. Opens and secures building and notifies supervisor immediately of lost or misplaced keys of district.
19. Maintain acceptable personal attendance without repeated unexcused absences, tardiness, absences without notification or abuse of sick leave.
20. Other duties as assigned by the School Plant Operator, and/or Principal and Director of Maintenance.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and number of days and hours set annually by the Board of Education
EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the Board's Policy on
Evaluation of Personnel.
