Position Summary
The Temporary Driver – Class B is responsible for safely operating company refuse trucks, including right-hand drive vehicles, and transporting equipment, containers, or materials to and from customer locations. This role supports operational needs on an as-needed basis and may assist with deliveries, pickups, route coverage, and other transportation-related duties. Hours may vary week to week based on business demands, customer schedules, and operational needs.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Safely operate Class B commercial vehicles, including refuse trucks and right-hand drive trucks
- Perform deliveries, pickups, route coverage, and transportation services for customers and job sites
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns immediately
- Ensure loads are properly secured and transported safely
- Follow all DOT regulations, traffic laws, company safety procedures, and customer site requirements
- Maintain accurate logs, delivery paperwork, and required documentation
- Communicate professionally with dispatch, operations, customers, and team members
- Assist with general yard, shop, or operational support duties as needed
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned vehicles and equipment
- Represent the company in a professional manner at all times
Qualifications
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) required
- Acceptable driving record and ability to meet company insurance requirements
- Experience operating refuse trucks and/or right-hand drive commercial vehicles preferred
- Ability to safely operate vehicles in residential, commercial, industrial, and construction environments
- Ability to work flexible and variable hours, including overtime or weekends as needed
- Strong attention to safety and situational awareness
- Reliable attendance and dependability required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, climb, bend, and lift throughout the workday
- Ability to lift and move up to 50 pounds occasionally
- Ability to enter and exit commercial vehicles multiple times per shift
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions
Work Environment
This position operates primarily outdoors and may involve exposure to traffic, dust, noise, weather conditions, and industrial environments.
Schedule
This is a temporary position with variable hours based on operational and customer needs. Weekly schedules are not guaranteed and may fluctuate.
