Position Description:
New for the 2026-2027 school year, the School Age Care (SAC) program is providing wrap-around care services to 4-year-old children enrolled in Owatonna Public Schools' early learning programs. SAC is committed to providing students with a high-quality child care program with engaging activities suited to the interests of the children enrolled in the program. This new program is looking for employees who are passionate about positive youth development and dedicated to providing youth with opportunities to grow every day.
The Program Assistants work in a fun, fast-paced environment. These positions support planning, preparation, and delivery of fun and engaging activities for 4-year-olds and share responsibility for the safety and well-being of the children in the program. These positions do include working on non-school days. These positions include interacting professionally with site teammates and building staff. A program handbook provides the expectation for excellence in programming. The Site Supervisor brings the program vision to life with the support of Program Assistants and the SAC Program Coordinator.
3 part-time-equivalent positions are available.
Position Requirements:
A passion for working with children in a fast-paced and enriching environment. Exhibit flexibility as a team player with the ability to problem-solve and handle multiple tasks at a time. Maintain a customer focus, with an understanding of parent-child interactions. Must be 16 years of age or older. A High School Diploma or general education degree (GED) is preferred. Training beyond high school/GED is appreciated and preferred, as is evidence of previous, successful experience and professional training working with young children in a child care/education environment. This position requires the ability to contribute to cooperative staff partnerships with communication skills to understand and be understood. Consistent and timely attendance is a must.
Schedule:
The successful candidate for this position must commit to work all days scheduled within a school year calendar. Husky Paw Preschool is open Monday through Friday during school attendance days. On non-school days, site staff will need to be available to support a Fun Day program. The daily work schedule may be adjusted based on daily attendance of participating children. School year staff have first consideration for continued summer employment.
Available assignments include:
Position 1: Monday through Friday, 7:15-8:15 am
Position 2: Monday through Friday, 11:00 am - 1:00 pm
Position 3: Monday through Friday, 2:45 pm - 5:15 pm
- One person may fill one or more of these assignments as available.
Program Calendar spans September 2, 2026 - June 4, 2027
These positions will have orientation and training hours during District Workshop Week, August 24-26, 2026.
Classification / Pay Rate:
A-1-3 EA // $17.31 to $20.89 per hour (depending on experience)
Employees will accumulate Earned Sick and Safe Time (ESST) in this position (If your position is full-time - 30 hours or more, additional benefits are available).
