This position is located in the Maintenance and Operations Section of Engineering Service at the Overton Brooks VA Medical Center in Shreveport, LA.
WORK CONDITIONS: Work is primarily performed outside in all kinds of weather, but may be performed in all areas of the hospital environment, including working outside in hot and cold weather where it is often dusty and dirty and in the hospital in medical, surgical, and psychiatric wards and research areas. Employee is exposed to extremes of hot and cold temperatures and all types of weather conditions. Work may be hot, cold, humid, wet, outdoors, indoors, underground in storage tanks, in a ditch, etc. Operating shuttle carts requires special care and attention to avoid serious injuries. The employee is responsible for carrying out instructions and performing work assigned in a safe manner so as not to endanger himself/herself and/or others. Personal protective equipment must be worn as needed.

Qualifications:
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Employee must be in good physical condition and may exert moderate physical effort in performing tasks such as lifting and moving objects weighing over 50 pounds. Must be able to stoop, crouch, reach, and lift materials. Responsibilities:
- Operating a valet shuttle, a gasoline or electric powered vehicle with a seating capacity of six (6) to fourteen (14) passengers;
- Transporting patients, employees, and visitors to and from on-site and off-site parking areas in low to high traffic conditions at medium speeds to the main buildings located on the medical center grounds;
- Performing various grounds maintenance activities such as mowing, edging, trimming hedges, and watering;
- Performing general labor duties such as cleaning various engineering storage and equipment rooms and engineering shops, moving supplies and materials, picking up trash and debris, and assisting craftsmen such as assisting carpenters with installation and demolition of walls, pipe fitters in repair and installation of water and sewer lines, etc.;
- Keeping shuttle carts clean, fueled, and ready for operation at all times;
- Performing related duties as assigned.
