Come join Overstory Health as an Intake Specialist in Boston, MA

Overstory Health builds world-class patient-centric Partial Hospital & Intensive Outpatient (PHP & IOP) programs for those with high acuity mental health needs. Our mission is to provide more accessible and dignified behavioral health care for people when they need care the most. With a clinical model validated by McLean Hospital, we deliver comprehensive psychiatric, therapeutic, and community reintegration services to our patients. Our teams are successful when our patients achieve their goals of stability, connection, and confidence during and after the program.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Overstory Health is seeking a full-time, in-clinic Intake Specialist (Therapist) to serve as a key clinical entry point for clients seeking care. This role is primarily responsible for conducting comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments for new client intakes across our PHP and IOP programs. The Intake Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring accurate clinical assessment, appropriate level-of-care determination, and a warm, supportive first experience for clients and referral partners.

In addition to intake responsibilities, this clinician may support group therapy coverage as needed to ensure continuity of care and program flexibility. This role collaborates closely with Admissions, Case Management, and the broader clinical team to support timely access to high-quality behavioral health care.

YOU’LL BE A GOOD FIT IF YOU

  • Have clinical experience working with higher risk adults with mood and psychotic disorders
  • Enjoy conducting thorough clinical assessments and helping clients take their first step into care.
  • Are skilled at building rapport quickly and creating a calm, supportive intake experience.
  • Feel confident assessing risk, acuity, and appropriate levels of care.
  • Want to be part of a collaborative, mission-driven behavioral health organization.
  • Are eager to be part of a fast-paced dynamic team in a start-up environment; this includes being an adaptive and flexible thinker, a desire to be collaborative across disciplines, and being a pragmatic problem-solver
  • Are interested in career growth opportunities within a rapidly growing organization and are willing to wear multiple hats on day one to help the team as needed
  • Enjoy working in a non-hierarchical environment where you will give proactive, practical, and confident feedback and opinion

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Lives in the Boston metropolitan area or is willing to relocate
  • W2 position, full-time with availability for 40 hours per week
  • Graduated from an accredited college or university with a minimum of a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Social Work, or health-related field.
  • Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker (LICSW or LMHC) actively licensed in Massachusetts (Optional)
  • Clinical experience in higher levels of care (PHP/IOP, inpatient, psychiatric emergency rooms, residential preferred; will consider PCP IBH or FQHC settings)
  • Ability and/or interest in providing clinical supervision to junior team members
  • Experience delivering both individual therapy and confidence facilitating groups independently
  • Confidence working with Medicaid populations and people with complex social needs
  • Proficiency in Google applications or willing to learn new technology quickly (e.g., Slack, Zoom, Electronic Health Record, etc.)

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct Patient Assessments: Evaluate patients during intake to determine the appropriate level of care, including Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP), Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), or external referral to a community partner. Following up with collaterals as needed to gather appropriate information/documentation for Admissions.
  • Address Clinical Needs: Report escalating clinical events, provide crisis care when necessary, and collaborate with the Medical Director to offer recommendations
  • Engage in the Care Team: Contributes actively to a cohesive and efficient team environment, demonstrating a proactive approach to daily responsibilities, open communication, and shared decision-making to enhance outcomes
  • Ensure Compliance and Documentation: Adhere to HIPAA standards and all relevant documentation and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Enhance Care Delivery: Lead efforts to improve clinical pathways and operational processes, and perform additional clinical duties as assigned
  • Provide Evidence-Based Therapy: Deliver both group and individual therapy as needed using evidence-based, measurement-informed practices within PHP and/or IOP settings. Note this is not the primary responsibility of this role.
