Position Summary:
The Asphalt Paving Superintendent will provide leadership and oversight for multiple asphalt paving and milling crews across various job sites. This role ensures that each crew is equipped with the necessary personnel, machinery, and daily work assignments to execute paving operations efficiently and safely. The Superintendent will coordinate with internal teams and external partners to maintain a consistent workflow and meet project deadlines.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and supervise multiple crews on job sites.
- Ensure each crew has the necessary equipment, personnel, and daily job assignments.
- Coordinate equipment moves and track equipment locations to effectively keep crews paving.
- Visit job sites to ensure readiness before crews arrive.
- Coordinate effectively with project managers, inspectors, operations team, asphalt plants, trucking, and crew members.
- Assist in paving schedules and schedule meetings.
- Interpret project plans and specifications; resolve discrepancies.
- Optimize operations and define construction means and methods.
- Maintain accurate daily reports, timekeeping logs, and equipment logs.
- Review and approve accurate timecards and ensure foreman report them in a timely manner,
- Train and mentor crew members on safety, equipment use, and production goals.
- Proactively train team members to ensure strong bench strength across all positions.
- Ensure proper housekeeping and asset protection on job sites.
- Monitor project progress and ensure work is completed on schedule and within budget.
- Perform quality control checks to ensure compliance with project specifications and standards.
- Enforce safety protocols and ensure a safe working environment.
- Attend safety meetings with crews including weekly toolbox talks. Ensure crew members are completing all safety tasks assigned to them.
- Other duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in asphalt paving operations.
- Strong knowledge of paving equipment and techniques.
- Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.
- Excellent leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Must be able to work flexible hours including nights and weekends.
- Ability to travel and work out of town when required.
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.
- Valid drivers license required.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and kneel for extended periods.- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Comfortable working outdoors in extreme temperatures and weather conditions.
- Capable of climbing on and off heavy equipment safely.
- Must be able to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, safety glasses, gloves, and boots.
- Work in an office environment for planning, scheduling, reporting, and coordination tasks.
- Travel between job sites and office locations as required.
