Job Summary And Qualifications
The Laboratory Phlebotomist performs collections of blood samples and specimens efficiently and appropriately following hospital and department standards and policies. Under the supervision of a Medical Technologist, the Phlebotomist may also performs routine technical functions, CLIA waived analyses and quality control. Overland Park Regional Medical Center is a 340 bed facility offering acute medical services to our patients. We are Johnson County’s only Pediatric Intensive Care Unit and Level II Trauma Center. We have an Accredited Stroke and Chest Pain Center. Our hospital is a premier area destination for Women's & Children’s healthcare services. We offer the region’s only Maternal Fetal Health Center to care for critically ill mothers and their babies. Our hospital has an antepartum unit, a labor and delivery unit, and a Level III NICU. We have four emergency rooms, including a dedicated Pediatric emergency room and two freestanding ERs located in Olathe and Shawnee. Each year our colleagues treat over 45,000 patients. What you will do in this role:
- You will greet patients and instruct them in proper specimen collection methods.
- You will draw blood specimens from patients by using finger sticks, heel sticks or venipunctures and collect other specimens as required.
- You will label specimens for identification purposes accurately and enter specimen data into the computer.
- You will prepare samples for microbiology, hematology, serology, blood bank, and urinalysis departments.
- You will assist with clerical duties by answering telephone calls.
- Graduate of Phlebotomy Course required
- One year of experience required; hospital experience highly preferred.
- Six months computer keyboarding or equivalent preferred.
- Phlebotomy certification preferred.
