The Senior Major Gifts Officer reports to the Chief Development Officer (CDO) and is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding major gift prospects in support of the medical center’s priorities. This role builds and manages a portfolio of high-capacity donors and works closely with hospital leadership, physicians and volunteers to secure significant philanthropic investments that advance patient care and improve community health.
- Work with CDO and Foundation team to develop, implement and realize annual and long-term goals for the medical center’s growing fundraising program.
- Advance an active portfolio of donors for major and planned giving. Identify, qualify, cultivate, solicit and steward major donor prospects. Work closely with board members, key donors, physicians, and volunteers to connect current and potential donors to Overlake.
- Conduct visits, other interactions, and personal solicitations with prospects, documenting actions as appropriate. Collaborate with Grantwriting and Communications Officer to prepare correspondence and proposals.
- Plan and participate in major giving fundraising events, cultivation events, or other events as required. Identify, recruit, and support hosts for cultivation and fundraising events.
- Work closely with Prospect Researcher to identify new prospects and meet monthly outreach metrics to qualify and engage new major donor prospects.
- Work with donor systems team members to integrate prospect identification, research and tracking systems into Raiser’s Edge and ensure up-to-date tracking of major gift prospects and gift proposals.
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree preferred. Equivalent related experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
- Minimum of five years of major gift fundraising experience required with a proven track record of securing six- and seven-figure gifts. Healthcare experience preferred.
- Ability to interact effectively and in a professional manner with a wide array of internal and external stakeholders.
- Strong interpersonal and written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to quickly amass programmatic knowledge in a complex healthcare environment.
- Interest in keeping abreast of new fundraising tools and strategies.
- Current knowledge of planned giving tools.
- Proven skills with moves management techniques in a not-for-profit setting preferred.
- Knowledge of techniques and sources for prospect research.
- Organized and goal-oriented team player, capable of managing several projects at once. Meets deadlines consistently.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office software and fundraising database systems, preferably Raiser’s Edge.
