As a small but growing firm, our team members are not limited to repetitive assignments or isolated workpaper sections. This position offers the opportunity to manage client projects, supervise staff, communicate directly with clients, improve firm processes, and grow into a leadership role.

The role includes a mix of audit and assurance work, client accounting, financial statement preparation, bookkeeping cleanup, project management, and selected tax preparation.

The ideal candidate is technically strong, proactive, detail-oriented, and comfortable taking ownership of projects without requiring step-by-step direction.

Key Responsibilities
  • Prepare and review audit, review, and compilation workpapers.
  • Prepare complex nonprofit audit sections involving net assets, revenue recognition, restricted funds, grants, contributions, and related disclosures.
  • Review workpaper sections prepared by staff and interns, including cash, investments, expenses, revenue, and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare complete financial statements and disclosures in accordance with GAAP.
  • Assist with engagement planning, audit testing, documentation, client request lists, and engagement completion.
  • Independently manage review, compilation, and other assurance engagements.
  • Review general ledger activity, reconciliations, financial reports, and client accounting records.
  • Perform bookkeeping cleanup and accounting correction projects.
  • Prepare selected individual, business, and nonprofit tax returns.
  • Communicate directly with clients to request information, resolve accounting questions, and provide project updates.
  • Manage multiple client deadlines and workflows through Canopy and internal project management systems.
  • Supervise, train, and review the work of staff accountants and interns.
  • Provide clear, practical feedback that helps staff improve their technical skills and work quality.
  • Research accounting, audit, tax, and nonprofit compliance matters before escalating questions.
  • Identify potential accounting, reporting, and engagement issues and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Improve firm templates, checklists, procedures, workpapers, and client deliverables.
  • Take ownership of assigned engagements from planning and client follow-up through completion and final communication.
Approximate Work Mix
  • 50% audit, review, compilation, and assurance work
  • 20% client accounting and bookkeeping cleanup
  • 15% tax preparation and compliance
  • 15% client communication and project management

The work mix may vary based on season, client deadlines, and firm needs.

Required Qualifications

  • Experience with audits, reviews, compilations, or other assurance engagements.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Experience reviewing, supervising, or training staff accountants or interns.
  • Ability to independently manage client projects, deadlines, and outstanding requests.
  • Strong Excel skills, including advanced formulas, financial analysis, and spreadsheet organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work directly with clients in a professional and service-focused manner.
