What are the responsibilities and job description for the Overhead Door Technician Apprentice position at Overhead Door Company of Kalamazoo?
We are currently looking for a highly motivated and attentive Garage Door Apprentice to join our growing team. In this position, you will be expected to help our garage door technicians with installing custom garage doors as well as fixing and maintaining them. You will also be required to travel to various locations to provide repair services, and you will be interacting with clients daily.
To be a successful apprentice, you must have great listening skills as well as excellent communication skills. A good garage door apprentice demonstrates respectful behavior and is efficient, making sure that all the tasks and problems are done and resolved on time.
Duties and responsibilities
- Assist technicians in the installation, maintenance, and repair of garage doors and door systems.
- Learn and follow safety procedures and protocols to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Use tools and equipment, including hand tools, power tools, and lifts, under supervision.
- Support troubleshooting of mechanical and electrical issues with garage door components.
- Help transport and organize tools, materials, and equipment for each job site.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors on project updates.
- Observe and adhere to company and industry standards for quality and service.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment at job sites.
Requirements
- Basic mechanical skills and familiarity with hand and power tools.
- Ability to lift and carry heavy materials and equipment (up to 50 lbs.).
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety practices.
- Good problem-solving skills and ability to follow instructions.
- Willingness to work in varying weather conditions and heights.
- Reliable transportation to company facility.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to undergo on-the-job training and learn new skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $20.00 per hour
