Job Description: Competitive Head Coach

About OV Toros
OV Toros FC is the competitive soccer program of Orchard Valley Youth Soccer League (OVYSL), serving the Morgan Hill, San Martin, and Gilroy communities. Our mission is to develop youth soccer players both on and off the field through a player-centered approach focused on skill development, sportsmanship, and personal growth. OV Toros FC coaches are dedicated to fostering a positive environment that builds strong character and life lessons through soccer.
Position Overview
OV Toros FC employs experienced, qualified, and motivated Head Coaches who align with our club’s vision and culture. The Head Coach will lead one or more competitive teams, providing high-quality training sessions, game management, and player development in accordance with club philosophy. Coaches will work collaboratively with the Director of Coaching (DOC) and the wider OV Toros FC staff to ensure consistent player development across all teams. This position offers opportunities for professional growth within a supportive coaching community.
Primary Responsibilities Coaching & Player Development
- Plan, prepare, and deliver high-quality, age-appropriate training sessions that align with OV Toros’ player development philosophy.
- Coach games, tournaments, and scrimmages in line with club and league standards.
- Provide individual player feedback and development plans throughout the season.
- Emphasize technical, tactical, physical, and psychological growth in every session.
- Promote sportsmanship, teamwork, and respect among players, parents, and officials.
Communication & Administration
- Communicate effectively and promptly (within 48 hours) with players, parents, and staff.
- Provide session plans upon request from the DOC.
- Complete and submit all administrative forms and reports accurately and on time.
- Manage parent communication and expectations regarding player development and
- conduct.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, player evaluations, and administrative
- paperwork.
Club Representation & Professional Conduct
- Represent OV Toros in a professional, ethical, and positive manner at all times.
- Work collaboratively with the DOC and fellow coaches to promote a true club environment.
- Attend and actively participate in all required club meetings, training sessions, and events.
- Wear OV Toros coaching attire during all practices and games.
- Promote all aspects of the OV Toros program to the community.
Other Responsibilities
- Exclusively represent OV Toros in a professional and ethical manner.
- Work in coordination with the Director of Coaching and other OV Toros staff.
- Complete all required administrative and operational tasks accurately and on time.
- Attend all mandatory club meetings, training, and development sessions as scheduled.
Schedule & Seasonal Commitments
- Preseason: Two weeks in mid-July; morning or evening sessions based on Club scheduling needs.
- Fall Season: Late July through late November.
- Spring Season: Mid-February through end of May.
- Optional Opportunities: Additional paid coaching may be available during winter and summer periods, including camps, clinics, futsal, and other club programs.
Qualifications
- Proven experience coaching youth competitive soccer (club, high school, or equivalent).
- USSF or equivalent coaching license preferred (D License or higher ideal).
- Strong communication and organizational skills.
- Commitment to player development and club culture.
- Ability to manage team and parent relationships professionally.
- Must pass all required background checks and safety certifications (e.g., SafeSport, fingerprinting, etc.).
