About Outreach Therapy

Founded in 2023, Outreach Therapy was borne out of needs assessment in street medicine and shelter settings. Outreach Therapy has rapidly bridged a gap in homelessness healthcare and human services across Allegheny County with a unique clinical approach to skills development for the transition to housing and community re-integration.

Our occupational therapists break down barriers by meeting people where they are: outdoors, in shelters, and in housing. We provide equitable, strengths-based, trauma-informed outreach occupational therapy integrating environmental accessibility, physical, mental health, and cognitive rehabilitation specialized for the transition out of homelessness. By problem-solving together in people’s real environments, we maximize success in maintaining housing and end the cycle of homelessness.

Our current capacity of three occupational therapists serves a small portion of need in our county. We are strategically restructuring to prepare to effectively and responsibly scale our model. New co-leadership will shift the current Founder/Executive Director (ED) to Program Director (PD), and hire a new ED with expertise in transforming a founder-led, early stage start-up to a structured, sustainable organization. This co-leadership model of ED and PD will allow for focused, dedicated efforts optimizing respective expertise in organizational and clinical development.
