Job Description: Safety Coordinator
Outerspace is a new type of Ops Center. We come from the brand side and have built and led operations for companies like Steve Madden, Prada and Nice Laundry. We leverage the latest technology to support our high growth brands and their daily operations. Outerspace provides a number of services including, but not limited to, warehousing and fulfillment, customization and light manufacturing, and product photography.
The Safety Coordinator is an integral part of the compliance department team, responsible for conducting and maintaining a training program for warehouse personnel within Outerspace.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts and/or coordinates safety training for all warehouse functions across all shifts in partnership with the Training Coordinator.
- Develops, implements, and maintains safety procedures, and policies that align with customer requirements, Outerspace standards, and applicable OSHA requirements.
- Creates and maintains safety training materials, including safety presentations, Job Safety Analyses (JSAs), toolbox talks, and Quick Reference Guides (QRGs).
- Supports Training Coordinator in and maintaining training matrix for safety-related training.
- Prepares and/or supports orientation and basic safety training for all new employees.
- Enforces the safe operations of warehouse equipment thorough audits and observations.
- Performs audits on dock and PIT operations ensuring safety processes are being followed
- Partners with Operations leadership to investigate and resolve identified safety concerns.
- Participates in incidents, accident, and near-miss investigations and assists with identifying root causes and corrective actions.
- Monitors corrective actions to ensure identified safety hazards are addressed promptly.
- Conducts safety observations and coaching with employees to promote safe work practices and reinforce accountability.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of safety training and identifies opportunities for improvement based on incidents, observations, audit findings, and operational changes.
- Maintains and updates applicable safety records in accordance with company standards.
- Assists with emergency preparedness programs, including evacuation procedures, emergency response plans, fire safety, and emergency drills.
- Ensures required safety signage, PPE, safety equipment, and emergency equipment are available, properly maintained, and appropriately utilized.
- Supports the identification and implementation of ergonomic improvements and safe material-handling practices.
- Communicates safety expectations, trends, incidents, and corrective actions to Operations.
- Supports peak operations and new business launches by reviewing safety requirements and ensuring appropriate controls and training are in place before implementation.
- Performs other duties as required and assigned.
Requirements:
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or GED (General Education Diploma) equivalent
- Minimum 1 to 2 years of relevant training experience in warehouse; or an equivalent combination of education and experience
- PC literate to include proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Essential Skills:
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
- Bilingual English and Spanish
- Ability to conduct training classes for audiences at all levels of the organization
- Ability to develop and proof training materials
- Proven presentation and facilitation skills
