EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Full-time
Position Summary: The Client Advocate is an intrinsic member of Hotline Outer Banks' crisis intervention and prevention team. All members are cross-trained to respond to callers on the crisis line or in person. Client Advocates foster and maintain collaborative relationships with partner agencies and conducts outreach and awareness activities within the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
· Work as an integral part of the Hotline Outer Banks Team.
· Provide advocacy services and/or crisis counseling to survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking.
· Assist victims with the protection order process and keep up to date on the latest changes or trends related to protective orders.
· Provide court related advocacy for victims, including accompanying them to court as necessary.
· Maintain cooperative networking relationships with law enforcement, criminal justice system personnel, and other community partners as required for maximum comprehensive client advocacy.
· Network with community resources to expand services to clients.
· Help coordinate outreach events within the community geared towards increasing awareness of Hotline’s services.
· Provide community education and awareness training to interested individuals/groups
· Assess immediate needs of clients and address these appropriately.
· Respond to callers on the 24-hour crisis line, including providing crisis counseling, safety planning and referral to other agencies as appropriate.
- Properly manage intakes, emergency case management and safety planning for clients.
· Participation in on-call rotation for crisis line.
· Attend meetings and trainings as assigned. Complete a minimum of 20 hours of training on job related topics each fiscal year (July 1st – June 30th) and provide proof of completion to Director of Operations and Administrative Assistant.
· Maintain accurate paperwork, statistics and fiscal documentation.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
· Knowledge and ability to work with people from diverse background with sensitivity to their needs and privacy.
· Knowledge of advocacy and counseling techniques for people who have been victims of interpersonal violence.
· Demonstrated experience in crisis intervention with domestic violence and sexual assault survivors and the impact it has on adults and children.
· Excellent oral and written skills, attention to detail with excellent judgement and strong interpersonal skills.
· Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks.
· Demonstrated ability to maintain professional boundaries.
· Well organized, creative, empathetic and people oriented.
· Experience in the use of Microsoft Office, email and Internet.
Qualifications
· 1 - 2 years experience in crisis counseling or direct client services preferred.
· Must have current driver’s license and insurance coverage.
· Pass drug and background check.
This position requires a minimum of 40 hours per week to maintain responsibilities; the position often requires between 40 – 45 hours per week.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $39,000.00 - $40,500.00 per year
