At Outdoor Research the Product Manager (PM) is responsible for the overall direction, planning, and financial success of a category. As a Product Manager, you?ll have a unique opportunity to lead an integral segment of our business, owning a category with the focus on scaling the business for future growth. Responsibilities include but are not limited to: Consumer insights, Line Planning, Product Briefs, Line Management, all the way to Sell In and to GTM, driving a category product strategy and executing a process that delivers product excellence and serves our seasonal and annual business strategies. As a PM you?ll develop and execute Business, Product and Pricing Strategies, lead the product team in the creation of short and long-term strategies, tactical product executions and innovations.
As a PM you?ll strive to increase the profitability of existing products while also helping to develop new products in partnership with the Design and Development counterparts. You?ll work with key cross-functional partners in the organization, including sourcing, materials, sales, operations, design, tech design, innovation, marketing, and manufacturing. A PM must be able to effectively collaborate and communicate with these departments to meet company goals and consumer expectations.
To succeed in this role a PM must possess mathematical and analytical abilities to develop pricing models and forecast product profitability, requiring the product manager to analyze technical, financial, marketing, and sales information. To ensure the success of the product line, the product manager must use a combination of marketing data analysis, personal experience, and customer/athlete/influencer input, stay updated with market changes and current market perceptions. They must then be able to communicate these results to cross-functional counterparts, which may include executive members of the company, making suggestions on how to improve current product lines and/or how Outdoor Research can enter underdeveloped market segments.
Product Briefing
Create product briefs that inspire design and development to raise the bar in product (and creative) excellence. Incorporate Consumer insights, marketplace influences and the Merchant Planner?s analysis. Provide briefs that give clear product direction and information to the development and design partners.
Project Management
Develop a collaborative working environment among the greater product creation team, leading the seasonal creation calendar. Partner with Design, Development and Sourcing to ensure deadlines are met and that product range hits all key metrics. Resolve process issues and recommend ways to continually improve the interaction of team members as well as process efficiencies.
Presentations
Consistently deliver high quality presentations of product lines to various internal and external audiences such as Key Accounts, Sales and Upper Management at key events such as: Pre- Lines, Sample Reviews, Sales Meetings and Trade Shows.
Performance Analysis
Ensure the assigned category products are delivering on business targets, seasonal margins and SKU efficiencies each season. Accountable for financial performance of the category and responsible for growth targets.
