Role Description
This is a full-time on-site role for a Merchandiser based in Wayne, PA. The Merchandiser is responsible for maximizing sales and profitability by ensuring our apparel, gear, and equipment are presented in an engaging, aesthetically pleasing, and commercially effective manner. This role involves managing inventory presentation, executing visual display strategies, and analyzing sales performance to inform merchandising decisions. The ideal candidate has a passion for the outdoors and a strong understanding of visual merchandising techniques in a retail environment.
Key Responsibilities
Visual Merchandising and Store Presentation
- Design and Execution: Develop and implement innovative visual merchandising strategies and window displays that align with current promotions, seasonal changes, and brand guidelines, showcasing our range of outdoor products (e.g., hiking, camping, climbing, paddling gear).
- Fixtures and Signage: Maintain and optimize all in-store displays, fixtures, and mannequins to ensure products are clearly labeled, priced correctly, and easy for customers to navigate.
- Store Flow: Ensure a clear, logical, and inspiring customer journey throughout the store, organizing products by category, activity, and price point.
- Brand Standards: Ensure all visual elements uphold the shop's brand identity, maintaining a clean, organized, and authentic outdoor aesthetic.
Inventory Management and Planning
- Product Placement: Determine optimal placement for new arrivals, promotional items, and bestsellers to drive impulse buys and maximize visibility.
- Stock Levels: Work closely with the buying and stockroom teams to ensure sufficient stock is available on the sales floor to support displays and prevent 'empty shelf' syndrome.
- Seasonal Transitions: Plan and execute floor moves and display changes quickly and efficiently for seasonal rollouts and major product launches.
Sales Analysis and Strategy
- Performance Monitoring: Analyze sales data, key performance indicators (KPIs), and customer feedback to measure the effectiveness of merchandising efforts.
- Optimization: Use sales insights to adjust product placement, display density, and promotional signage to enhance sell-through rates and profitability.
- Reporting: Provide regular reports on display effectiveness, popular product groupings, and areas for improvement to the management team.
Team Collaboration and Training
- Communication: Act as the liaison between the sales floor team and the management/buying team regarding product presentation needs and opportunities.
- Training: Train and coach sales associates on basic merchandising standards, ensuring they maintain the visual integrity of their assigned zones throughout the day.
Qualifications
Required
- Experience: Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in visual merchandising, retail display, or a similar role, preferably within the outdoor, apparel, or sporting goods industry.
- Skills: Proven ability to create compelling, high-impact visual displays. Strong understanding of retail math and sales analysis.
- Attributes: Highly creative, detail-oriented, self-motivated, and able to work independently.
- Physical Requirements: Must be able to stand, walk, climb ladders, and lift/move moderate weight (up to 30 lbs) as required to set up displays and fixtures.
