In this senior leadership role reporting to the Executive Director, you will oversee all aspects of people operations and culture, including recruiting, employee engagement, performance management, compliance, compensation, and benefits design. With one direct report, you will provide both strategic direction and day-to-day oversight of core HR functions.

What You'll Do

Recruitment, Onboarding, and Retention

  • In partnership with leadership, oversee recruitment processes, from job posting to candidate selection, ensuring a diverse and qualified workforce.
  • Partner with managers and leadership to strengthen onboarding and staff development practices that support a legally compliant, mission-aligned, and highly engaged workplace grounded in our LERD values.
  • Build a strong understanding of organizational structure, staffing needs, and budget considerations to support thoughtful growth and workforce planning.
  • Serve as a strategic thought partner to leadership on staffing needs, evolving roles, succession planning, and organizational design.
  • Identify and implement strategies that support employee engagement, retention, and professional growth while sustaining a healthy and collaborative workplace culture

HR Operations & Benefits Administration

  • Provide strategic oversight of HR operations and employee lifecycle processes, including onboarding, HRIS administration (BambooHR), payroll coordination, timesheet management, PTO tracking, leave administration, and employee records.
  • Supervise and support the team member responsible for certain day-to-day HR administration, ensuring efficient, accurate, and people-centered execution of HR processes.
  • Lead the evaluation, design, and administration of employee benefits programs, making recommendations that support staff well-being, organizational sustainability, and recruitment and retention goals.
  • Partner with leadership to assess and strengthen HR systems, processes, and workflows that improve operational effectiveness and the employee experience.
  • Utilize HR data and reporting to inform decision-making, identify trends, and support organizational planning.

Compliance and Employee Relations

  • Oversee employee leave practices, including parental, family, medical, and disability leave, ensuring policies remain values-aligned, and responsive to the evolving workplace landscape.
  • Monitor employment laws and HR best practices to maintain compliant and up-to-date organizational policies, procedures, and employee resources.
  • Lead annual compliance initiatives review and required training, and develop resources and educational materials that support staff learning and accountability.
  • Ensure policies and workplace expectations are clearly communicated across the organization.
  • Address employee concerns, conduct workplace investigations, and support conflict resolution efforts with professionalism, fairness, and care.
  • Partner proactively with leadership to identify organizational risks and strengthen people practices.

Organizational Culture and Talent Development

  • Champion our LERD values by fostering a culture of belonging, collaboration, accountability, and continuous learning.
  • Lead performance management processes that support staff growth, development, and organizational effectiveness.
  • Partner with managers to strengthen feedback practices, coaching, goal setting, and employee development opportunities.
  • Design and support equitable performance evaluation processes and professional development pathways.
  • Foster a culture of learning and growth by supporting staff development plans, training opportunities, and leadership development opportunities.
  • Serve as a member of the leadership team, contributing to organizational strategy, planning, and culture.

What We're Looking For

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
  • 5 years of People experience related to People strategy, project management, execution, and talent relations
  • Strong Technical Skills and experience using onboarding and payroll software
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to identify, initiate, and nurture internal and external relationships across all levels
  • Exceptional ability to maintain confidentiality and objectivity, practice sound judgement, build and foster trust
  • Outstanding communication skills (written and verbal) with the ability to listen to understand
  • Strong project management skills with an ability to map out a project from beginning to end, effectively manage stakeholders’ expectations, harmoniously drive toward completion, and ensure project objectives are met
  • Operationally savvy - enjoys and is comfortable designing, building, rolling out, and facilitating training around new People policies, practices, programs, systems, tools and resources

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience within non-profit organizations
  • Human Resources Certification such as SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR
  • Multilingual skills and multi-cultural or cross-cultural experience
  • Experience working with a diverse talent population
  • Experience in hiring and developing teams
  • Master’s Degree in Human Resources or related field
