Role Description The Full Time Optician at Our Town Eye Care will work on-site in Peterborough, NH, supporting patients with their eyewear and vision needs. Day-to-day responsibilities include assisting patients in selecting frames and lenses, taking precise measurements, interpreting prescriptions, and advising on lens options, coatings, and fit. The Optician will place and track orders with optical laboratories, verify and adjust completed eyewear, and perform basic repairs such as nose pad replacement, screw tightening, and frame adjustments. The role also involves maintaining accurate records, processing payments and insurance information, and ensuring the optical area is organized, clean, and fully stocked. The Optician will collaborate closely with optometrists and other team members to provide a seamless, positive experience for every patient.
Qualifications
- Experience in optical dispensing, including interpreting prescriptions, taking measurements (PD, segment height), and advising patients on frame and lens selection.
- Skill in fitting, adjusting, and repairing eyewear, with attention to comfort, accuracy, and patient safety.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and support diverse patients in a respectful, patient-centered manner.
- Basic familiarity with insurance processing, point-of-sale systems, and maintaining accurate patient and order records.
- Ability to work full time on-site in Peterborough, NH, including standing for extended periods and handling multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Detail-oriented approach with strong organizational skills and reliability in following procedures and safeguarding patient information.
- Prior experience as an optician or in an optical/eye care setting preferred; ABO certification or other relevant optical credential is a plus.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; additional training in optics, healthcare, or customer service is beneficial.
