What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electric Vehicle Assembly Technician position at Our Next Energy?
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assemble vehicle structures, drivetrains, battery packs, wiring harnesses, suspension systems, and interior components according to work instructions or engineering drawings
- Safely handle and install high-voltage components following lockout/tagout and de-energization procedures
- Route and secure wiring harnesses, coolant lines, and control systems for EV-specific assemblies
- Perform torque checks, alignments, and fit-and-finish inspections to ensure build quality
- Use hand tools, power tools, and precision measuring equipment to perform assembly tasks
- Follow build schedules and maintain documentation of completed work and any deviations
- Work collaboratively with engineering, quality, and testing teams to identify and resolve build issues
- Maintain a clean and organized work area, ensuring compliance with 5S and safety standards
- Participate in training for EV-specific assembly methods, safety requirements, and product updates
- Repair, maintain, troubleshoot, and service electrical powertrain and charging infrastructure using skills and tools that range from computer diagnostics to basic electrical tools – able to use a digital voltmeter, vector canalyzer (or some level of experience in failure diagnosis)
- Keep accurate and detailed records of work performed and parts used
- Assist with training and mentoring of new technicians, sharing knowledge and expertise
- While the position may occasionally require additional hours, overtime will be limited and is subject to prior approval based on business needs
- Ability to track work through Jira and other Atlassian tools
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical or vocational training in automotive, electrical, or mechanical fields preferred
- Familiarity with EV components such as battery systems, inverters, motors, and charging systems (preferred)
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, assembly diagrams, and work instructions
- Experience with torque tools, precision measuring devices, and basic electrical testing equipment
- Strong focus on safety, especially when working with high-voltage systems
- Good communication skills and ability to work in a team-oriented production environment
- Valid driver’s license
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks
- Lift and move components up to 50 lbs, sometimes with assistance
- Work in various positions including bending, kneeling, and overhead assembly
- Use of PPE including safety glasses, gloves, and high-voltage protective gear
