What are the responsibilities and job description for the Assistant General Manager position at Otway?
Otway is a community of passionate and enthusiastic individuals, committed to creating a great work experience in the pursuit of eating and drinking well. We are a woman owned and operated neighborhood restaurant with an emphasis on quality of life, sustainability and our community.
The AGM will manage day-to-say service operations of the restaurant, setting and maintaining all service standards through staff development and retention. They will be responsible for continually defining and refining service at Otway. The AGM will manage the floor during service, lead and guide their management team and perform a variety of administrative duties.
Role and Responsibilities:
Always Maintain the highest level of standards across all aspects of the operation
Fulfill day to day operational duties including:
- Open & Close of business
- Cash reconciliation, tip-pool reconciliation and reporting
- Delegation of FOH opening and closing checklists
- Weekly FOH scheduling
- Pre-Shift Line Up and team briefing
- Experience working with a dynamic wine list, ability to perform wine service in lieu of sommelier
- Ensure Ambience and Presentation are aligned with the Otway's conceptual vision
- Maintain DOH and SLA compliance at all times
- Connect and collaborate with all members of the team on all operations
- Foster a positive and inclusive working environment by leading, inspiring and developing a diverse and passionate staff
- Determine needs of staff at a macro and micro level
- Train and develop all frontline FOH staff team members
- Supervise, motivate and ensure high performance of all frontline FOH team members
- Manage performance issues and mediate disputes internally
Requirements
- 1-2 year minimum experience in a high-touch, fast-paced restaurant environment
- Experience with operations management, team management, and team development
- Preferred beforehand, but can obtain before start date: NYC DOH Food Protections Certificate
- Ability to walk/stand for extended periods of time
- Ability to work mornings, nights, weekends (we are closed on most holidays)
Relevant Knowledge, Skills & Ability
- Excellent food and beverage knowledge, specifically spirits
- Strong Understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Power Point)
- Strong Understanding of POS and inventory systems
