Substitute Teacher Job Description
- Report to the main office and sign in on the page designated. Given sufficient advance notice, the substitute should report no later than 7:45 am.
- Teachers are required to work 7:45 am-4:00 pm daily. If a weather delay is in effect report no later than 9:45 am.
- Must maintain confidentiality of all students and personnel.
- Please locate and look through the sub folder/tub for additional instructions.
- Report the lunch count (paper form) to the cafeteria manager in the main office no later than 8:30 am.
- Report attendance for all class periods in your sub notes.
- Familiarize yourself with the building as time permits and introduce yourself to the neighboring teachers.
- Note fire drill, tornado and all emergency procedures and exits.
- Have walkie-talkies on and with you from 7:45 am-4:00 pm.
- Always be appropriately dressed and well groomed.
- Follow the lesson plans and notes of the regular classroom teacher as much as possible. Use materials provided.
- Supervise hallways as students enter and leave the building and between classes.
- Supervise any Chapel or recess duties that the regular teacher is responsible for.
- Report any serious illnesses or accidents to the office manager and/ or principal.
- Put all materials and equipment back in place at the end of the day.
- Sub Notes-leave a brief summary of how the day went (absences, work not completed, behavioral issues, etc.)
- Lock all windows, turn out lights, turn off air conditioner/fans/heater, etc. in the classroom.
- Sign out in the main office. At this time report any concerns you may have concerning your time at the school to the principal.
- If you are subbing for an extended amount of time, attend any teacher meetings held. If in doubt, ask the principal.
