Location: Rice Lake, Full-time | Practice: Family Law

Overview We’re seeking an experienced Family Law Attorney to lead complex matters, mentor junior attorneys, and deliver exceptional client outcomes. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of family law, strong litigation and negotiation skills, sound judgment, and a client-centered approach grounded in empathy and professionalism.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage a diverse caseload from intake to resolution, including divorce, legal separation, custody/parenting time, child support, spousal maintenance/alimony, paternity, guardianship, adoption, and protective orders.
  • Handle all phases of litigation: pleadings, discovery, motions, settlement conferences, mediations, arbitrations, and trials.
  • Develop and execute case strategies aligned with client goals; provide clear, timely counsel on legal rights, risks, timelines, and likely outcomes.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements and court filings, including prenuptial/postnuptial agreements, parenting plans, QDROs, property division instruments, and consent orders.
  • Appear regularly in family and domestic relations courts; argue motions, examine witnesses, and present evidence.
  • Collaborate with experts (forensic accountants, custody evaluators, mental health professionals, vocational experts) and coordinate discovery on complex financial and custody issues.
  • Lead client communications with sensitivity and discretion; maintain rigorous documentation and compliance with ethical rules.
  • Mentor associates and paralegals; contribute to training, quality control, and best-practice development.
  • Participate in business development: consultations, community outreach, networking, and thought leadership.
  • Uphold firm standards on billing, docketing, and matter management; meet utilization and collections goals.

Qualifications

  • JD from an accredited law school; active bar admission in WI and in good standing.
  • 6 years of dedicated family law experience, including first-chair litigation in contested matters.
  • Demonstrated success in high-asset divorce, complex property division, business valuations, and cases involving custody evaluations or relocation.
  • Strong legal writing and oral advocacy skills; comfort with evidentiary hearings and trial practice.
  • Skilled negotiator with mediation and settlement experience; collaborative law training a plus.
  • Excellent client service, emotional intelligence, and crisis-management skills.
  • Proficiency with practice management software, e-filing systems, and discovery platforms.
  • Additional admissions (federal or neighboring states) and language skills are advantageous.

Preferred Certifications/Training

  • Mediation and/or collaborative law training.
  • Domestic violence advocacy training; trauma-informed practice exposure.
