Role Summary:
Apply environmental engineering knowledge and skills to moderately complex projects to ensure all applicable regulatory compliance standards are met or exceeded.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities:
- Manage, prioritize, and complete environmental projects or programs of moderate size, scope, and duration, focusing on reducing environmental, health, and safety risks.
- Coordinate project work with engineers, technicians, designers, and drafters.
- Monitor and report on compliance with federal, state, and local environmental laws related to air, water, soil, and waste.
- Provide scientific and technical guidance to production facilities and corporate departments.
- Develop and maintain environmental profiles, regulatory calendars, and reporting requirements for company facilities.
- Complete permitting activities and ensure ongoing compliance.
- Lead or participate in environmental, health, and safety evaluations, investigations, audits, and remediation projects.
- Oversee the collection, transportation, and treatment of hazardous materials.
- Provide regulatory support for new product and process development to ensure compliance.
- Troubleshoot, analyze, propose, implement, and document solutions to environmental challenges.
- Create test parameters and participate in testing and implementing environmental and engineering solutions.
- Establish and drive continuous improvement plans to enhance quality, safety, efficiency, or service.
Core Skills and Qualifications:
- Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree with an emphasis in engineering or a related field and three (3) years of related engineering experience; OR
- Associate's degree and nine (9) years of related engineering experience.
- Technical Expertise:
- Experience interpreting environmental regulations (air, water, soil, and waste) as they apply to processes, equipment, and products.
- Familiarity with permitting requirements.
- Practical application of engineering science and technology principles.
- Understanding of design techniques, tools, and principles related to the production of precision plans, blueprints, drawings, and models.
- Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, and manufacturing techniques.
- Skills:
- Strong logic and reasoning abilities to assess alternative solutions and approaches.
- Ability to independently prioritize, organize, and manage projects, deadlines, and tasks.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills necessary to convey complex job-related information.
