Position Summary
The Communications Manager is responsible for leading the Ottawa Tribe of Oklahoma’s communications strategy, operations, and messaging across all platforms. This role ensures that all communications—administrative and governance—are accurate, timely, professional, and aligned with Tribal values and priorities.
This position oversees the Communications Department and serves as the central point of coordination for internal and external communications, including digital content, public information, media relations, and emergency messaging. The Communications Manager ensures all messaging follows established governance workflows and maintains the integrity of official Tribal communications.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Strategy
- Develop and implement a comprehensive communications strategy for the Tribe
- Establish standards for messaging, branding, and communication workflows
- Oversee all Communications Department operations and resources
- Advise Tribal leadership on communication strategy and public messaging
Communications Oversight
- Manage all administrative communications including announcements, programs, events, and public information
- Oversee governance communications to ensure proper routing, authorization, and accuracy
- Ensure consistency across all platforms including website, social media, print, and digital channels
Governance & Compliance
- Ensure all governance communications follow the established workflow and authorization process
- Maintain alignment with Tribal Constitution, policies, and Communications Plan
- Protect the integrity, accuracy, and confidentiality of official communications
Digital & Public Presence
- Oversee website management, social media platforms, and digital communications
- Ensure timely updates and consistent messaging across all public-facing channels
- Monitor public perception and online reputation
Media & Public Relations
- Serve as the primary point of contact for media inquiries
- Prepare press releases, official statements, and public announcements
- Coordinate communication efforts during high-visibility or sensitive situations
Internal Collaboration
- Work with all Tribal departments to support communication needs
- Manage the Communications Request Process and prioritize departmental requests
- Provide templates, tools, and guidance to improve communication quality across departments
Emergency Communications
- Lead communication efforts during emergency situations
- Ensure rapid, clear, and coordinated messaging with Tribal leadership
- Maintain and implement emergency communication protocols
Performance & Reporting
- Track communication effectiveness across channels
- Provide regular reports and recommendations to the Tribal Administrator and leadership
- Continuously improve communication processes and tools
General Responsibilities
- Attend required meetings and trainings
- Maintain professionalism with Tribal citizens, leadership, and staff
- Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards
- Perform other duties as assigned
Pay: $50,000.00 - $60,000.00 per year
