Under the supervision of a Public Health Team Supervisor, this position provides outreach services for the Children's Special Health Care Services (CSHCS) program. Responsibilities include developing and distributing program information such as newsletters and community resources, maintaining a Facebook group, and coordinating training opportunities for families of children and youth with special needs. This role serves as a liaison between state and local program staff and families, helping build supportive networks. This is a longstanding grant-funded position through the CSHCS Family/Youth Engagement Program and the Family Center, designed to help local CSHCS programs create opportunities for families and youth to participate in local activities.

This is a part-time, limited benefit position (10 hours a week on average), primarily based out of the James Street Complex located at 12251 James Street, Holland MI.Essential functions include, but are not limited to:
  1. Implement annual grant objectives to enhance awareness, support, and advocacy for and by families of individuals with special needs; complete grant reporting requirements.
  2. Plan, create, and help distribute communications (newsletters, social media posts) featuring community resources and relevant information for parents, caregivers, and families.
  3. Maintain and manage a Facebook group for parents and caregivers of children and youth with special needs, offering peer-to-peer support and resource information.
  4. Develop, organize, and facilitate training opportunities for families, caregivers, and professionals (medical, educational, and others) who work with families of children and youth with special needs.
  5. Conduct outreach activities to build community connections, raise awareness of CSHCS and Family Center services, increase program enrollment, and foster family advocacy and support.
  6. Collaborate with the CSHCS team, families, care providers, and community partners to ensure cohesive program delivery and support.
  7. Assist in administering customer experience surveys and use caregiver feedback to improve service delivery and outcomes.
  8. Contribute to a safe, diverse, and inclusive work environment.
  9. Stay informed about relevant resources and updates to serve as a knowledgeable resource for families and the community.
  10. Perform other duties as assigned. Note: primary job functions may vary annually to align with grant requirements.
Required Education, Training, and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED, plus at least two years of experience providing administrative support in a medical or public health setting.
  • Lived experience with children who have special physical, behavioral, developmental, or emotional needs is valued and preferred.
  • A valid Michigan driver's license is required.
Required Knowledge and Skills
  1. Strong interpersonal and customer relations skills; ability to interact positively and professionally with others.
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to present information effectively to diverse audiences.
  3. Solid working knowledge of healthcare and community resources available to client populations.
  4. Proficiency in computer applications, including Office 365, Canva, and other relevant software.
  5. Good working knowledge of the Children's Special Health Care Services program.
  6. Familiarity with social media platforms, including experience managing Facebook groups and related administrative tasks.
     
Physical RequirementsMust be able to perform essential job functions with or without reasonable accommodations, including visual and/or audiological appliances or devices to increase mobility.

Working ConditionsWork is performed in an office setting and at community locations as needed for outreach events. Remote and hybrid work schedule requests will be considered based on operational needs and within established limits.
