ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND REPSONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate wheelchair orders, part ordering, and schedule vendor appointments; accompany individuals to wheelchair vendor clinic appointments.
  • Maintain organized records, charts, and files related to wheelchairs and adaptive equipment. Provide active treatment.

    - Complete exercise and communication plans as outlined by clinical staff.

    - Apply proper techniques in guided movement, positioning, body mechanics, and gait training as instructed.

    - Conduct regular maintenance, repair, and fabrication of adaptive equipment under clinical direction.

    - Ensure clinic areas are clean, safe, and meet current disinfecting protocols.

    - Collect and summarize treatment plan data as required.

    - Support training in the home and program settings on clinical supports, services, and equipment.

    - Assist with inventories, purchase orders, filing, and other clerical duties for the Clinical Department.

    - Provide staff training as directed (e.g., adaptive equipment, STAMP, CPI).

    - Serve as a DSP in program settings when requested by Clinical Staff.

    - Assist individuals with self-care needs as outlined in habilitation plans.

    - Communicate effectively with colleagues, supervisors, and other programs/agencies.

    - Demonstrate professionalism, respect, and positive relationships with all individuals served.

    - Participate in clinical services team meetings and other assigned meetings.

    - Follow all agency policies, mission, and values, ensuring supports align with individual position requires goals.

    This position requires a two-week notice of voluntary resignation.

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

    This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

    QUALIFICATIONS

    EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE

    High school diploma, GED or CNA, along with a minimum of one year of experience supporting individuals with developmental disabilities; or a combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to meet the position requirements, as determined by the hiring manager. Familiarity with general power tools and workshop equipment is preferred.

    REASONING SKILLS

    To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate the following competencies: demonstrated sound judgment and decision-making; strong interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills; ability to work independently across multiple settings; capable of interpreting written, oral, diagram, or schedule-based instructions.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedure manuals. Effective verbal and written communication skills.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

    Ability to perform basic math operations with whole numbers, fractions, and decimals.

    COMPUTER SKILLS

    Proficiency with email, spreadsheets, and agency software systems to support clinical and clerical tasks.

    CERTIFICATION, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

    Must possess a valid NYS driver's license and an acceptable driving record. Successful completion of all required agency training.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    - Frequent bending, stooping, squatting, pushing/pulling, and reaching above and below shoulder level.

    - Ability to independently lift, transfer, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. (no lifting restrictions).

    - Ability to physically intervene using agency-approved behavior supports.

    - Adequate vision, hearing, and speech-with or without correction-to monitor and respond to individuals' needs.

    - Specific vision requirements include close vision and focus adjustment.

    - Ability to ambulate, sit, and use hands for fine motor tasks.

    - Ability to operate computers, software programs, and tools such as drills, saws, and screw guns.

    - Adhere to assigned schedules in Day Services and Residential programs.

    WORK ENVIRONMENT

    - Regular use of household cleaning solutions.

    - Moderate noise levels; 75-90% of work is indoors, 10-25% outdoors.

    - Frequent use including wheel of adaptive equipment chair, lifts, ramps augmentative communication, hospital beds, devices, carpentry/mechanical tools, and office equipment.

    - Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as required.

    - Required to clean human waste and other body fluids when necessary.

    - Responsible for cleaning and maintaining workstations after projects.

    - Work schedules may occasionally be adjusted to meet program needs.

    The rate of pay for this position starts at an annual salary of $45,760.00 based on $22.00/hour (or more depending on experience).
