Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailers with dry van trailers across designated OTR routes, ensuring compliance with FMCSA (Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration) and DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to verify vehicle safety and readiness, including checks on brakes, tires, lights, and cargo securement.
- Load and unload freight efficiently using manual handling techniques or forklift equipment when necessary, ensuring cargo is secured properly for transit.
- Navigate routes using GPS navigation systems to optimize delivery times and maintain accurate delivery schedules.
- Manage logistics cargo handling by loading, securing, and unloading freight with attention to safety protocols for hazardous materials and dangerous goods when applicable.
- Communicate proactively with dispatchers regarding route updates, delivery status, or any issues encountered on the road.
- Maintain detailed logs of driving hours, inspections, deliveries, and compliance documentation in accordance with FMCSA regulations.
Requirements
- Valid CDL A license with a clean driving record; experience operating tractor-trailers preferred.
- Proven delivery driver experience with a focus on route driving in over-the-road (OTR) settings.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations related to commercial truck driving and cargo securement standards.
- Excellent navigation skills utilizing GPS navigation systems for efficient route planning.
- Physical stamina to handle long hours on the road and perform manual handling tasks as needed.
