Job Description

OTHON Engineering is currently seeking a full time (on-site) CAD Technician for immediate full-time employment at the Houston, TX location. We are looking for a self-motivated, aggressively enterprising individual wanting to expand their career opportunities within a growing consulting engineering firm. An individual interested and/or with experience in electrical infrastructure is preferred.

The applicant will be responsible for providing assistance to engineers and engineering technicians for the following activities:

• Create accurate 2D and 3D CAD drawings and models based on project specifications and requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers to ensure designs meet technical standards and project objectives.
• Revise drawings as necessary based on engineering reviews, redlines, and client feedback.
• Maintain organized project files and documentation.
• Review the work of other CAD technicians for the quality control process. 
• Produce drawings, layouts, sketches, maps, and graphic representations of engineering designs for transportation clients using computer aided drafting software.
• Assists Task Leaders, Project Engineers, and Senior Engineers in the development of engineering plans and quantities for road, drainage, and traffic designs.​

This position requires self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as part of a larger team in order to work toward common goals in serving our clients. This position MAY include providing drafting services for the following areas of design:

• Traffic Signals
• Illumination
• Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)

Additional responsibilities may also include cross-training for assisting in the following areas of drafting:

• Roadway
• Drainage
• Toll Facilities
• Intersection Improvements
• Pedestrian Facilities
• Erosion Control
• Traffic Control
• Signing
• Pavement Markings
• Retaining Walls

A CAD Technician conceptualizes the initial civil design approach and assists in implementing detailed design through the overall project development process, resolving a variety of complex problems, and reviewing plans and preparing technical specifications, contract documents and cost estimates.

  Minimum Skills and Experience 

• An Associate of Applied Science degree in Architectural Design Technology or other related fields. 

or 

• High School Diploma, a CAD Drafting Certificate, and 2 years of relevant experience. 

or 

• High School Diploma and 3 years of relevant experience. 
• 1 years of MicroStation CAD software experience required.
• Hands on experience with Geopak preferred.
• Applied knowledge with OpenRoads software is required.
• Identify and resolve design issues effectively and efficiently.
• Able to work under tight deadlines.
• Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively, both written and verbally, with design and construction teams in a positive and proactive manner
• A strong work ethic and attention to detail
