OHS FOOTBALL HEAD COACH
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Develops and implements a comprehensive football program philosophy aligned with school and district values, and establishes measurable goals focused on competitive excellence, student development, academic achievement, and community engagement.
- Provides leadership and oversight of all program levels to ensure vertical alignment in systems, terminology, skill development, expectations, and culture.
- Recruits, supervises, mentors, and evaluates assistant coaches, establishes clear roles and accountability, and ensures staff alignment with program standards and performance goals.
- Designs and oversees structured practice planning and player development systems; instructs student athletes in techniques, conditioning, strategy, and football IQ; and supports the Director of Athletics with monitoring and communicating athletic eligibility (attendance, behavior, academics).
- Develops and executes offensive, defensive, and special teams systems; conducts video analysis and opponent scouting; and manages personnel and game strategy effectively.
- Establishes and enforces behavioral and cultural standards that promote integrity, sportsmanship, accountability, inclusion, and professionalism in all interactions.
- Ensures compliance with district, league, and WIAA regulations, including supervision, injury response and concussion protocols, equipment safety, required certifications, and assistant coach compliance.
- Maintains professional communication with athletes, families, staff, administration, media, and community stakeholders, collaborates with the Director of Athletics, and serves as the program’s public representative with professionalism and poise.
- Oversees program operations, including equipment management, budgeting support, eligibility documentation, and team logistics, and participates in program-related events and community engagement activities.
- Collaborates with ASB leadership, booster organizations, and community partners to support compliant and responsible fundraising and long-term program sustainability.
- Actively and positively partners with middle school and local youth programs to promote vertical alignment and strengthen long-term program development.
- Attends required district, league, and WIAA meetings and trainings, and performs additional duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
EMPLOYMENT ASSIGNMENT
The Head Football Coach position may be paired with a teaching assignment based on district needs and candidate qualifications.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Physically able to lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to fifty (50) pounds.
- Physically capable of demonstrating movements or plays to student athletes, when applicable or necessary.
- Physical ability to walk, stand, stoop, bend, crawl, lift, reach, pull, and climb as required to satisfactorily perform required duties.
- Ability to focus (adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at twenty (20) inches or less, and clear vision at twenty (20) feet or more.
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and bending.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High School Diploma/GED or equivalent
- Previous coaching/playing experience in football (preferred)
- Must have First Aid/CPR card as per WIAA guidelines.
- OSD Type II Driver's License may be required.
- Completed or will complete all WIAA trainings and requirements.
