POSITION SUMMARY
The Dean of Students is responsible for creating a positive learning environment for all students. The Dean of Students will help students resolve problems that interfere with their gaining the greatest benefit from the school’s educational opportunities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Assist in creating a positive school environment conducive to teaching and learning and free from all forms of discrimination, including all forms of harassment.
- Serve as a resource to staff in dealing with classroom management issues and student discipline.
- Notifies building administrators of all attendance or disciplinary circumstances potentially involving short or long-term suspension or expulsion, and makes appropriate recommendations.
- Ensures that all parties receive due process in all proceedings.
- Assist building administrators with the responsibility for protecting the health and welfare of students.
- Assists with truancy issues and the BECCA law under the direction of school administration.
- Assist building administrators with development and successful implementation of school improvement goals and objectives.
- Work closely with all school personnel and parents to foster positive relationships and to support student learning.
- Communicate effectively and openly with parents and the public, and continue positive school/community relations and partnerships that enhance district programs and services.
- Supervises students before, during and after school in hallways, and on/off school grounds, and during lunch.
- Assists with compiling and publishing of Student/Parent Handbook.
- Support and adhere to district operating and board governance policies.
- Participate in special projects as assigned and perform related duties and key responsibilities consistent with the scope and intent of the position.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Physically able to occasionally lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds.
2. Ability to walk, stand, sit, stoop, bend, reach, kneel, crawl, and grasp as
required to successfully perform all duties and requirements.
3. Ability to focus (adjust eye to bring an object into sharp focus), clear vision at
twenty (20) inches or less, and clear vision at twenty (20) feet or more.
4. Must be able to work in heat and cold (outside seasonal temperatures).
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree or Doctorate from an accredited college or university.
EXPERIENCE: At least five (5) years of successful certificated experience in public schools and effective work with school age students. Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish language (Preferred)
CERTIFICATES & LICENSES: Valid Washington State teaching certificate. Must maintain as current any certification or license listed herein and held at hire date.
CONTINUING EDUC./TRAINING: That which is required to be effective in the position and to maintain knowledge as current
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
Starting Date: 2026-2027 School Year (182 total contracted days)
Salary: $63,912 - $122,620 annual salary. Based on education and experience, Per OEA CBA - 2026-2027 Salary Schedule
Retirement: Pension through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems
