Othello Community Hospital is a full-service, critical access hospital located in Othello, Washington. Open 24/7, it provides both inpatient and outpatient care to the surrounding Adams County community with a strong commitment to accessible, high-quality healthcare.

 

Core Services Include:

  • 24-hour Emergency Department and Ambulance Services
  • Surgical Services: General, OB/GYN, Orthopedics, and Endoscopy
  • Obstetrical Care: Labor, delivery, and neonatal support
  • Diagnostic Imaging and Laboratory Testing
  • Anesthesia and Respiratory Therapy
  • Physical Therapy and Occupational Health
  • Sleep Center for diagnosing and treating sleep disorders

The hospital accepts most insurance plans, including Medicare, Medicaid (Apple Health), and offers financial assistance programs. Services are available in Spanish, and there are no eligibility restrictions for care.

 

OPEN POSITION: EMT (Ambulance)

Othello Community Hospital is seeking skilled and compassionate Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) to join our dedicated team. As a key part of our Emergency Services department, EMTs provide critical, front-line care and transport for patients experiencing medical emergencies. These positions offer flexible scheduling with Per-Diem, Part-Time, and Full-Time opportunities available.

    • Location: Othello Community Hospital, Othello, WA
    • Schedule: Varying Shifts –days, nights, and weekends.
    • Status: Part-Time
    • Wage Range: $19.77 to $35.81

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  •     Respond promptly to dispatch calls and drive emergency vehicles to the scene.
  •     Maintain communication with Dispatch throughout each shift.
  •     Assist in safely removing and transporting patients from emergency scenes.
  •     Assess patients to determine the nature and severity of illness or injury and decide on appropriate care or if additional help is needed.
  •     Provide emergency medical care on-site or in the ambulance (e.g., oxygen, splints, wound care, CPR).
  •     Communicate with emergency room staff for patient hand-off and treatment instructions.
  •     Help transfer patients from ambulance to the emergency department.
  •     Support ER staff in gathering patient information and vital signs.
  •     Keep the ambulance clean, stocked, and equipment in working order.
  •     Complete required continuing education (OTEP) via Target Solutions; if not current, the EMT is responsible for re-certification through CME.
  •     Perform security checks and general safety duties around the hospital during night shifts.
  •     Assist with lab courier duties, such as transporting blood samples.
  •     Help at the front desk or with other hospital services when needed.
  •    Support any department at the hospital upon request by a supervisor.

 

BASIC SKILLS REQUIRED:

·Reasoning:
Able to stay calm and prioritize tasks effectively in high-stress situations.

·Math:
Can add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentages.

·Language:

  •    Reading: Can understand manuals, medical references, and similar materials.
  •    Writing: Can write clear summaries and reports in English with correct grammar and formatting.
  •    Speaking: Must speak English clearly; Spanish is a plus.

·Physical Requirements: This is a physically demanding job. Must be able to:

  •    Regularly lift and move up to 25 pounds.
  •    With a partner and proper equipment, lift and move over 200 pounds (e.g., during patient transport).

· Physical Demands:
This job involves frequent physical activity, including:

  •    Climbing & Balancing: Going up/downstairs or ramps and staying balanced on uneven or slippery surfaces.
  •    Stooping, Kneeling, Crouching & Crawling: Bending, kneeling, or crawling as needed during patient care or emergency situations.
  •    Reaching, Handling & Fingering: Using arms, hands, and fingers to lift, hold, grasp, or feel objects (e.g., medical equipment, patient limbs).
  •    Talking & Hearing: Must be able to clearly speak and hear to communicate in emergencies.
  •    Vision: Requires good vision for near and far distances, depth perception, color recognition, and peripheral awareness.

· Work Environment:

  •    Work takes place both indoors and outdoors in various conditions.
  •    Possible exposure to bloodborne and airborne pathogens.

· Tools & Equipment Used:
Includes, but is not limited to:

  •    Medical Equipment: Stethoscope, resuscitator, surgical tools, bandages, splints, forceps, scissors, tweezers, traction devices.
  •    Emergency & Transport Gear: Ambulance, stretcher, cart, examining table, clinical scales.
  •    Technology & Systems: Electronic monitoring systems, data displays, alarm systems.
  •    Documentation & Reference Materials: Manuals, instruction guides, loading charts, and manifests.
  •    Vehicles: Ambulance and other hospital transport vehicles.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  •     High School Diploma or equivalent
  •     Current EMT License
  •     WA state drivers license with clean driving record
  •     Age requirement of 21 years of age
  •     BLS Certification
  •     Complete an orientation time frame
  •     Successful completion of employment and criminal background checks.
