Experience Required: Six to nine (6-9) years of experience working at a landfill or transfer station which included operating heavy equipment.
Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Primary Work Location: This employee primarily works at in an office environment.
Certification: This position requires a valid CDL NM driver’s license.
Job Summary: Oversees and participates in the work projects and assignments of personnel, of employees assigned to a solid waste transfer station and operates gas- and diesel-powered construction and maintenance equipment.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:
- Interview and hire employees; plan, assign, and direct work; appraise performance; reward and discipline employees; address complaints and resolve problems.
- Plans, prepares, and issues daily work schedules for assigned personnel.
- Plans, prepares, and maintains department budget.
- Find new markets for recycled materials.
- Inspects county waste transfer station to assure proper maintenance and control operations.
- Performs preventive maintenance and supervises and participates in the construction, maintenance and control of county transfer station.
- Issues assignments and use of transports gas- and diesel-powered construction and maintenance equipment.
- Monitors work to ensure personnel follows safety procedures.
- Requisitions items needed for daily operations.
- Responsible for knowing and abiding by all department and county policies and procedures.
- Work on a variety of special projects as assigned.
- Other duties as required.

Physical Demands
The following physical abilities are required:
- The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
- May encounter toxic materials.
- Will be bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling, and standing for prolonged periods of time.
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
- The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
- Work in confined spaces and at heights.
- Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment
Performs essential duties indoors 50% of the time under normal conditions and 50% outdoors under fluctuating temperatures. Primary work surface indoors is concrete, carpeted and/or tiled floors, outdoors is subject to wet, dry or greasy natural ground, asphalt.
Noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud. During on site, employee is exposed to exhaust fumes and dust from vehicles and heavy equipment operation.
Safety Requirements
The employee is expected to follow all safety procedures as required.
Salary: $60,000-$70,000. DOE plus benefits package.
