Accounting Specialist

Experience Required: Two to three (2-3) of increasingly responsible clerical accounting experience.
Minimum Education Requirements: High School Diploma and college coursework in accounting or bookkeeping.

Job Summary: Perform a variety of basic clerical accounting duties including accounts payable, payroll, general ledger, and budget; to generate a variety of reports; and to perform a variety of clerical tasks relative to the finance department.
Essential Job Functions
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties:
- Perform accounting and clerical functions to support the finance department.
- Will be trained in their areas of work in clerical accounting methods, techniques, and in the set up and use of equipment.
- Perform accounting transactions on a computer accounting system.
- Run a variety of computer-generated reports; perform research in the preparation of reports; audit for accuracy.
- Assist departments and employees, by providing fiscal information and answering questions.
- Assist department head with grant tracking and reimbursement.
- Perform a variety of general clerical duties including typing, records maintenance, and other related duties.
- Assist with answering the telephone and taking messages for department staff.
- Work on a variety of special projects as assigned.
- Keep grant receipts organized and filed.
- Deposit checks for County.
- Compile financial information for all open and active grants to create and submit obligation notices, payment requests, and monthly reports. Submit reports to the proper agencies/departments.
- Update CPMS website to reflect status of all active grants.
- Check reconciliation and reconcile month end.
- Generate monthly YTD budget reports for various departments.
- Review travel requests, track travel advances, and calculate reimbursements.
- Other duties as required.

The following physical abilities are required:
