Otego Family Dental, PC, founded in April of 2010, is a family owned dental practice operating in Otsego County, New York. With two offices, the first office in Otego, NY and the second in Oneonta, NY, the practice has been growing continuously and providing patients with the best treatment, service, and dental experience.
Drs. Kathy Knox and Alexander Kocieniewski, a mother and son duo, lead the two teams. Dr. Knox leads the Otego Office and Dr. Kocieniewski leads the Oneonta office. We are a prevention oriented, family practice. Our mission is to treat every one of our patients as if they were our own family. We provide quality dentistry with a gentle touch and we take pride in guiding our family of patients to a healthy smile.
We are looking for a experienced Dental Assistant in our Otego office who will make the dentist’s office more efficient and pleasant for patients.
The ideal candidate will be well organized with great attention to detail; skilled in providing direct and indirect patient care; able to make office procedures proceed as smoothly as possible.
Responsibilities
- Welcome patients into the dental office.
- Show care and concern while comforting patients during treatment.
- Prepare patients for treatment.
- Select and set up instruments, equipment, and materials needed for the dentist.
- Sterilize and maintain instruments according to state regulations.
- Assist the dentist with instruments and material needed for treatment of a patient.
- Undertake lab tasks as instructed.
- Provide oral hygiene and post-operative care instructions.
- Keep the dental room clean and well stocked.
- Schedule dental appointments.
- Maintain accurate patient records and assist with payment procedures.
Requirements
- Minimum of 1 year dental assistant experience strongly preferred.
- Ability to project a positive, warm and professional image in person and on the phone
- Strong organizational and administrative skills – you see what needs to be done and do it
- Must be articulate and service-oriented
- Ability to multitask, take initiative and anticipate needs of others
- Reliable and prompt; available for at least 35 hours per week
- Works well in a team, with humor, enthusiasm and joyful consideration of others
- High school diploma or equivalent
This position would be on a schedule of:
Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday 7:30am-5:00pm with a lunch break
Thursday 7:30am-1:00pm
Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays off
The successful candidate may be asked to work at the Otego Office to cover for absences or for training purposes but will primarily work in the Oneonta Office.
Pay rate of $21-26/hour for a Dental Assistant with experience, or $24-$28/hour for a Certified Dental Assistant with experience.
Physical Work Conditions
- Always work indoors in a temperature controlled office kept between 65°F and 70°F.
- Wear protective clothing daily such as masks, safety glasses, and rubber gloves.
- Often exposed to diseases, infections, and contaminants when working with patients or preparing filling material.
- Are sometimes exposed to radiation when x-raying teeth. However, dental assistants wear protective gear when operating x-ray equipment.
- Work very closely with other people and have little space between themselves and others.
- Exposed to noises that are uncomfortable, such as dental drills.
- Occasional lifting of items up to 20lbs.
