About the Mentoring and Strategic Initiatives Coordinator Position: The Program Coordinator for Mentoring and Strategic Initiatives (MSI) is a key member of the Mentoring and Strategic Initiatives Team housed in the Excellence in Graduate and Postdoctoral Training area of the Graduate School. The Program Coordinator for MSI will play an integral role in implementing the vision for mentoring, recruitment, and retention set by the Assistant Dean for Mentoring and Strategic Initiatives and Graduate School leadership. Specifically, Program Coordinator for MSI will coordinate programming, handle logistical details for several projects and initiatives, and serve as a liaison between the MSI Team and key stakeholders on and off campus. The successful candidate is someone who can work both collaboratively and autonomously, is detail oriented, and is successful at initiating, managing, and completing projects simultaneously to achieve larger team goals. Essential Duties: 60% - Mentoring Program Coordination: Coordinates programming to advance effective mentoring practices that support graduate students and postdoctoral scholars, including logistics for mentoring workshops for faculty mentors across the university. Organizes instructional materials for mentoring workshops and keeps them up to date. Communicates with faculty and staff mentoring workshop facilitators across the university. Serves as the mentoring liaison between the Graduate School MSI Team and graduate student organizations to provide resources on mentoring. Assists with mentoring up workshops for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars across the university. Responds to mentoring inquiries and workshop requests, and keeps content updated on mentoring website. 30% - Recruitment and Retention Initiatives Coordination: Recruitment and Retention Initiatives Coordination: Serves as a recruitment liaison between the Graduate School MSI Team and graduate program coordinators across the university to share Graduate School recruitment opportunities and resources. Coordinates and implements the Graduate School’s signature programming to recruit and retain graduate students, including but not limited to the Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP). Coordinates travel logistics for SROP cohort of approximately 40 students, including making travel arrangements and submitting spend authorizations, expense reports, and reimbursement processes. Coordinates hiring and onboarding of SROP cohort of 40 students. Handles all other administrative details for the SROP program, including the selection process and updating content on the SROP website. Participates in graduate recruitment events on-campus and off-campus and virtual college fair events to promote the Graduate School and its graduate programs. Keeps inventory of all recruitment and retention program supplies and manages ordering of new supplies. 10% - Other Duties: Provides office administrative support related to meeting scheduling and coordination, reserving space, arranging catering, etc. Works on special projects assigned by the Associate Dean for Excellence in Graduate and Postdoctoral Training. Education and Experience: Minimum Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and 4 years of relevant experience required. Desired Education: Master’s degree and 4-8 years of relevant experience preferred. Required Experience: Experience with mentoring, recruitment, and retention initiatives. Excellent written and oral communication skills with a variety of stakeholders. Experience independently and successfully managing multiple projects at once. Experience learning and managing complex and detailed organizational processes. Strong administrative, interpersonal, and cultural competencies, including experience handling difficult, complex, and sensitive information with discretion and care. Experience working collaboratively. Proficient in use of technology to support project delivery and communications. Intermittent travel and weekend or evening hours are required. Desired Experience: Experience in a college or university setting, including graduate education. Experience with public speaking and/or workshop facilitation.
