Job Title: IRP-Reg Respiratory Therapist (HS) Department: University Hospital | Respiratory Therapy FUNCTION Allied Health professionals (distinct from medicine, pharmacy and nursing) deliver health or related services using scientific principles and evidence-based practice for the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic diseases; promote disease prevention and wellness for optimum health; and apply administration and management skills to support health care systems in a variety of settings. This job function includes the allied areas of dentistry, neurodiagnostic, polysomnography, ophthalmology, optometry, perfusion and respiratory. SUB-FUNCTION Respiratory Therapy provides all types of respiratory care including respiratory therapy treatments, oxygen and humidity therapy, mechanical ventilation, whole blood analysis and hyperbaric treatments. Develops and implements performance initiatives to ensure optimal patient outcomes and patient satisfaction. The Pulmonary Diagnostic Lab provides service for patients undergoing pulmonary function tests, such as spirometry, lung volumes, diffusing capacity measurements, blood gas studies and bronchoscopies. Also provides specialized tests, such as methacholine challenge, eucapnic voluntary hyperventilation, exercise stress testing and sputum induction. At more seasoned levels may lead functional or project teams or act as a working supervisor to other clinicians. Typically requires a university degree and clinical license, certification, or training. CAREER LEVEL Applies working clinical knowledge and experience within own job discipline and broadens capabilities. Understands business drivers and uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Requires expanded conceptual clinical knowledge in own job discipline and broadens capabilities. Solves problems in straightforward situations; analyzes possible solutions using technical experience and judgements and precedents. Receives a moderate level of guidance and direction. Provides informal guidance to new team members. Explains complex information to others including patients and families in straight forward situations. MINIMUM REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Associate's Degree from an accredited school of Respiratory Therapy approved by the Ohio Respiratory Care Board licensure guidelines. Ohio Respiratory License. Registered Respiratory Therapist through the National Board for Respiratory Care. 0 years of relevant experience required. 0-2 years of relevant experience preferred.
