What are the responsibilities and job description for the Day Camp Counselor Full Time - Seasonal (Oshkosh YMCA) position at OSHKOSH COMMUNITY YOUNG MENS CHRISTIAN ASSN INC?
As a Camp Counselor, you'll take on a pivotal role in providing direct guidance to campers during their immersive camp experience. Your dynamic contribution as a cause-driven member of the YMCA summer team involves executing engaging programs, fostering a safe and lively environment, and assisting in overall camp administration.
Workdays: Hours vary Monday – Friday between 6:30AM-6:30PM; program operates June 8-August 28, 2026. Counselors training is June 1-6, 2026. Counselors must be available to work all 12 weeks of the program and be in attendance for all training dates. (Time off for vacations may be granted)
Hours per Week: Full Time (up to 40 hours per week) or Part Time (up to 30 hours per week)
Counselors are required to work 2 out of 3 campouts over the summer.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
• Provide direction and supervision of camp activities with camper group
• Under the direction of the Day Camp Site Director, the Counselor is responsible for the supervision and interaction of their assigned group of campers.
• Assist in the development and administration of camp programming
• Assist in maintaining appropriate records and ratios as required by DCF252
• Attend family nights and sleepovers
• Maintain a clean and safe camp
• Maintain program areas and equipment
• Coordinate the use of all supplies and equipment
• Performance of other duties assigned by the Day Camp Site Camp Director
• Must have successfully completed high school.
• Must be 18 years old or older by the first day camp is in session.
• Must attend all of pre-camp counselors training & orientation
• Be creative, enthusiastic, self-motivated, and outgoing with ability to think independently
• Abusive Head Trauma Training (within 30 days of employment).
• Child Abuse Prevention Training (within 30 days of employment).
