Field Service Technician - TFA

Position Summary:

Responsible for the installation, testing, analyzing, maintaining, repairing and training of packaging equipment, including aseptic thermoform machines, and associated portfolio products at customer sites, with main emphasis on supporting the controls platforms. Understanding of wiring, pneumatic schematics, and hydraulics is required. Primary focus is to provide customers with excellent technical customer service and ensure complete customer satisfaction. This position has a direct and significant impact on maintaining, as well as, growing the customer base for Osgood Industries.

Essential Functions:

• Perform field service repairs, installations, field audits, for new equipment installations and / or existing machine installed base.
• When assigned, train customers, managers, technical personnel, and operators on proper operation, maintenance, and safety rules of filling/packaging equipment, specifically on applicable machinery control software.
• Occasionally, when assigned, provide accountability as a site manager/lead, directing the workload and tasks of other field technicians, assembly and engineering personnel, and coordinating with customer and other contract / OEM site personnel.
• Maintain necessary machine configuration documentation during installation.
• Possess and sustain proficiency in control software (e.g. Allen Bradley/Rockwell Automation, Siemens, SCL programming language and Codesys) and machinery equipped with PLC’s through vendor training and interaction with engineering personnel.
• Preferred knowledge of processing visualization software Visiwin from Inosoft
• Commissioning of the systems  at the customer's site, analysis, and capable of solutions while on site
• Provide support to customers, internal Customer Service, Assembly, and Sales departments, as required.
• Provide updates and modifications, as needed, to machine controls software programs or firmware at customer sites.
• Provide feedback to Head of Service on customer equipment needs and updates/mods.
• Report customer and individual concerns/complaints to Quality Manager, as needed.
• Support and assist with design and order reviews, assembly, testing and final acceptance tests (SAT and FAT) to become proficient with the control packages interface and integration.
• Assist the Parts and Modernization departments with quoting requests for electronic controls software and hardware upgrades and / or electrical component upgrades.
• Prepare expense and service trip reports on all service visits, in a timely fashion.
• Submit to safety, background, and drug/alcohol testing as required by customer(s).
• Properly and appropriately wear personal protective equipment, as required.
• Contribute to product safety by reviewing machine functionality and safety standards when on customer site.

Minimum Requirements:

• Degree in Electrical Engineering or 2 years of vocational training in Electromechanical Systems
• Must have a minimum of 3 years’ experience in the OEM industry involved in designing, editing, installing and troubleshooting PLC and motion control software and hardware
• Must be able to travel domestically and sometimes internationally away from home for extended periods of time (75-80%)

Competencies:

• Ability to support various software control platforms for packaging machine to customer plant integration.
• Knowledge of ladder logic, produced and consumed tags, messaging, as well as other machine integration tools.
• Possess advanced mechanical, electrical and software skills.
• Proficiency in operating controls systems of equipment (Allen Bradley, Rexroth, Siemens, PLC, HMI, etc.).
• Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, including ability to communicate effectively to the intended audience.
