- Performs direct and indirect patient care activities within the scope of practice of an orthopedic technologist and specific training, assisting orthopedic physician with dressing changes, suture and pin removal, incision and drainage, reducing fractures, etc.
- Educate patients and staff regarding proper care and use of orthopedic appliances.
- Document the care administered.
- Monitor and order all casting, clinical, DME, and patient supplies including instruments
- Clean, autoclave and properly package surgical instruments.
- Orient and provide on-the-job training in casting and splinting to resident physicians and staff.
Knowledge
- Knowledge of health care field and medical office protocols/procedures.
- Knowledge of specific task assistance related to medical practice.
- Knowledge of sterile technique and orthopedic supplies.
- Skill in diplomacy and tact in interpersonal interactions.
- Ability to effectively share information with patients and families.
- Skilled in the application of casting, splinting, and veritable orthopedic appliances
- Ability to learn and retain information regarding patient care procedures.
