POSITION OVERVIEW:The Orthopedic/Durable Medical Equipment (DME) tech is a trained member of the physician support team who works with all health care professionals in delivering patient care and assuming all responsibilities related to and concerning casting, splinting, minimal wound care and DME. This includes but is not limited to fitting, refitting, custom measurement, education, and patient satisfaction. The Ortho/DME tech provides the appropriate splints, casts or durable medical equipment and supplies for patients, in accordance with their benefits and/or approved exceptions with a focus on improving quality, efficiency and access.
Essential Functions
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:

The Ortho/DME tech provides the appropriate splints, casts or durable medical equipment and supplies for patients, in accordance with their benefits and/or approved exceptions with a focus on improving quality, efficiency and access.
Essential Functions
- Provides casts/splints and DME as requested by the physician team.
- Assists in resolving patient DME problems.
- Processes orders for supplies and equipment as medically necessary and prescribed by OCC physicians.
- Updates authorizations as needed or requested by physician/physician assistant involved in care of patient.
- Track and maintain up-to-date, accurate inventory and reorder documentation on equipment and supplies.
- Follow-up as necessary with appropriate clinicians to ensure that supplies, equipment etc. are medically necessary and delivered in a timely fashion.
- Produces, copies, faxes or mails equipment prescriptions as requested.
- Conducts follow-up telephone calls with patients to ensure satisfaction with equipment purchases/modification and tracks on a spreadsheet. Brings concerns to manager as necessary.
- Completes letters of medical necessity for equipment and supplies with appropriate clinical input.
- Educate patients on insurance plans and provisions, financial responsibility, and collection of patient portion
- Ensure that all necessary documentation and authorization is obtained as it relates to payer requirements
- Typical business office environment
- Possibility of local travel
- Constant viewing of computer monitor, mousing and typing
- Frequent standing, walking and sitting
- Frequent stooping, lifting, carrying and pushing/pulling 10 pounds or more
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds
- Hours of business are Monday – Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Must be able to work earlier or later, as needed, to meet the essential functions of the job
